I think I have contracted some sort of disease of polyfannishness. I mean, I'm not actually complaining, but ... my usual fandom mode is total immersion. I am currently writing a ridiculously epic Highlander fic, simmering some due South, White Collar, Doctor Who, Dark is Rising, and possibly Avatar fics on the backburner, still meaning to go through that Babylon 5 rewatch because I love that show like mad, and, at the moment, tearing joyfully through Star Trek TOS. And this is leaving aside how I have to clean all the things, remember to feed myself, act like someone capable of normal human interaction with real live other people, and do the reading for my job. There is no way I can do total immersion in all the fandoms I actually want to. Maybe I could give up sleep?

I'm sure I'll figure it out. (I can stop watching TOS anytime I want to!!) In the meantime, I was seized with the sudden urge to make Post Secrets for characters, possibly because I am awful at having any fandom secrets myself. So I broke out Paint and Googleimages, and I made twelve secrets! I thought it might be fun to guess what character made any given secret; I think some of these are painfully obvious and some of them are weirdly unobvious, but I figure enough of you know how my brain works anyway.

Behind the cut: characters from Babylon 5, Doctor Who, due South, Highlander, Star Trek, and White Collar have secrets! They are probably things you already know, but don't tell them that. Last secret is perhaps mildly NSFW. )

i. Things that are disconcerting and hilarious when rewatching X2 for the first time in years: [a] the discovery that Mystique is, in fact, played by Roxie from Eastwick, oh my god I have seen Roxie BLUE and NAKED, my life is a little more complete now; [b] Peter Wingfield is totally randomly Stryker's second-in-command? and my brain has just as much trouble computing him as a soldier as it does whenever I see John Sheppard's ridiculous face. Apparently, the more stuff I watch, the smaller the acting pool appears to be. I don't think I'm complaining, though.

ii. WHITE COLLAR. :D 2x07: UNMITIGATED JOY, mostly. )
I haven't talked about White Collar in a while! So I think it is time for some talk of that.

2x04-06: In which Aria loves Mozzie, Sara, and Peter Burke's FACE. )

In other news, THERE IS A JUMPING SPIDER FROLICKING ON MY BED. IT IS HUGE AND AWFUL. I am therefore now going to escape the house, get brunch, and hope like hell that the huge jumping spider has frolicked off somewhere NOT MY ROOM by the time I return.

Today: Prop 8 was overturned, as I'm sure you all already know, judging from the happyflailing going around my corner of the internet. (I think this is my favourite newslink, if only for the picture of all the happy screaming people.) Of course it's now just going to bump its way up to the Supreme Court, but, honestly, it's about damn time.

Yesterday: I spent an afternoon of wit and tomfoolery, succinctly described by [personal profile] oliviacirce here and by [personal profile] sasha_feather here, but I see now that they are both locked. If you are on their lists, yay! If not, suffice it to say that I suggested performing exorcisms with possums, getting turkeys high before cooking them, and fulfilled my weekly quota of saying quotable things.

I also showed Olivia Comes a Horseman/Revelation 6:8, and because we watch shows in delightfully similar ways, we clutched at each other and yelled a lot about ex-boyfriends and then speculated at length about Methos' kinks. I have not converted her to the Ways of Highlander, but I am fairly sure I have converted her to the Ways of Methos, and that is all I can ever ask.

And White Collar happened! Not with Olivia, I mean, just in general. I do not have insightful or spoilery things to say, but I do want to state for the record that I LOVE MOZZIE. Oh Moz. <3

Lastly, a link: this comic summarizing Christopher Nolan films. MY DEAD WIIIIFE. (The Momento panel makes me laugh until I cry.)
I have had a crazy week, full of accomplishment and CLEANING ALL THE THINGS. Details forthcoming; at the moment it is very important that I do the bullet-points version of reaction posts to the many and varied things I have seen between my bouts of doing things.

i. Inception! My non-spoilery thoughts are that it did basically everything that I expect a Christopher Nolan film to do (in both the positive ways, ie the effects, oh my heart the effects and also the Hans Zimmer score, and the negative ways, ie someone really needs to sit Mr. Nolan down and talk to him kindly about his women) -- so, because I knew what I was in for when I went in, I was free to just wildly enjoy myself. Apparently there is already a huge post of Inception resources for those of us who are fannishly inclined; I have not had time to take a look, but I am delighted with the sudden explosion of fanworks. And I don't know about the rest of you guys, but I already have a blank doc open entitled 'Ariadne in the Labyrinth,' which hopefully will soon be less blank and full of my Thoughts on Ariadne. (Spoilers: most of them are "dfkldsfjkfdfsd I LOVE HER.")

ii. Sherlock! SHERLOCK. Spoilers are a sociopath, not a psychopath. Get it right. )

Additionally, I've noticed that the vague suggestion that Benedict Cumberbatch (IS THAT NOT THE COOLEST NAME EVER BENEDICT CUMBERBATCH) should perhaps play the Twelfth Doctor. I ignored this suggestion because I am too busy loving Eleven to go around casting Twelve. However, someone on my flist -- I am sorry that I do not remember who you were! because your idea is fucking brilliant -- proposed that perhaps Cumberbatch should, instead, play Eleven's Master. And now I am completely weak in the knees, because I couldn't think of a single good candidate before, and I think he'd be perfect. He can do the weird young/old thing that Matt Smith does; he can do that calm, worrying sort of crazy; and he's just as odd-looking and of a comparable enough age to do a fantastic foil. If this doesn't happen now I will be a wee bit crushed.

iii. White Collar! This week's was charming without being memorable; it had a fun A-plot, but not even a fraction enough kinky subtext to get me jumping up and down and clapping like a seal, the way I often do. I'll be glad when show-time catches up with the end of Tiffani Thiessen's pregnancy, because I suspect that everything would be greatly improved by Moar Elizabeth.

Incidentally, USA filmed White Collar's panel at ComicCon. From it I have learned that Marsha Thomason (...and perhaps the whole cast, IDK) ships the OT3, that I am possibly a bit in love with Marsha Thomason and Tim DeKay, and that hopefully after episode six there should be Moar El. Also, the cast is adorable. <3
1. The Avatar: The Last Airbender sequel miniseries seems to be officially confirmed! I am so, so excited to see our kids' legacy and the shape of that world in a hundred years.

2. Secret wall art is real!! Here is a whole gallery of it. I am so excited for the next time I end up in a hotel now, although I assume that not every hotel will have awesomeness lurking on the walls.

3. (Link text is spoilery for DeKay's opinions on plot matters.) A quote from this interview with Tim DeKay:
"To me, [Neal and Peter] like each other. They've admitted they are friends and they care about each other more than just professionally. But I think if both of them completely trust each other, like a love story where two people haven't gotten together in a romantic comedy series, if they completely trust each other than those two will have gotten in bed and we don't quite want that yet. We want to hold that as long as we can."
Let's go through this again, shall we? If they trust each other completely they'll sleep together and we don't want that YET. There has to be a word for that sublime moment when subtext becomes text, and no, Word of Gay is not the phrase I am searching for, although the meaning is very close.

I haven't pinpointed exactly what it was about this episode, because it certainly wasn't as shippy as it's sometimes been, but goddamn, tonight's White Collar was great. Happyflail and spoilers follow. )

I LOVE THIS SHOW.
i. I believe that in order to be properly fannish about due South, on this day the eleventh of March we're supposed to post Sgt. Frobisher's butchering of the St. Crispin's Day speech. But I don't like butchering Shakespeare even in the name of comedy, so: happy Fraser & Kowalski sledding into the sunset day!

ii. Spring break has officially started for me! I'm not hopping a plane until Saturday, though, so I fully intend to spend my next day or so of freedom writing (finishing??) my End of Time fic. And then I can spend spring break making sure I do not have to default on my due South big bang! in between making life plans. YAY.

iii. Assuming I get everything else done in a timely manner, I am strongly considering writing White Collar fic during the bleak gap before second season. In the spirit of this, a question, namely: what do you think are the classics (as in, "Kate always did love the classics"), ie those secret messages/heist strategies/&c that are fun and trope-y? So far my list is write secret messages using lemon juice and no one's dead until you've found the body, but that is a set of bullet points, not a list. Ideas?

(If you answer this question by linking to TV Tropes, I will sic the Cthulhu in my icon at you. I'm so serious.)
It appears that I'm only updating roughly once a week, usually to talk about White Collar. Now that White Collar is over for a while, I'll have to find other things to talk about or you'll never hear from me again!

Lately I have been up to things like: watching Burton's Alice in Wonderland, fighting my way through my schoolwork, staying up late rewatching New Who and writing my End of Time fic in increments, running errands and sorting out my life so that I will not be at loose ends in two months, and mainlining Babylon 5. Third season here I come! Life is good even though the warm sunny weather makes me unaccountably cranky.

Anyway, I am going to talk about White Collar! 1x14, as-I-watch. Longish but mostly coherent. )
i. Link o' the day: What About, a multifandom vid about women being awesome. As sometimes happens when I watch things about women being awesome, I started crying for reals, because I'm kind of a nutcase.

ii. In other reasons I am kind of a nutcase, this Hark! A Vagrant! strip is a really good depiction of my day:

I'm most of the way through Breaking Dawn, guys. I can't put it down. It's so crushingly terrible. It's full of so many creepy things that I deeply disagree with! I'm so sad we ever got Jacob's POV because it's 1000x more entertaining than Bella's! The less spoken about the demonbaby pregnancy the better! BELLA IS THE ~*BESTEST VAMPIRE EVER*~! It's like they put crack in the pages. I can't wait to see the poor actors do all these scenes when they get to adapting this one for film. I can absolve myself of my shame by writing filthy Jacob/Edward porn, right? Right?

[On that note: I'm probably asking in the wrong place, because I expect most of you are kind of judging me for Twilight-talk already, but does anyone know where there's good fic? Any good fic at all? The AO3 is giving me nothing, and I'd like me some Jacob/Edward! Alice/Bella! Awkward cross-species OT3 fic! Carlisle/anyone! Just ... anything that fucks with canon, basically. And I can't write it all myself. Help?]

iii. White Collar is back tonight! It was not actually exciting enough to deserve cut text. :( STEP IT UP, WHITE COLLAR. Needs moar Elizabeth, I think. Actually, I just want the whole show to be like 1x08: subtext & trust & El!! Next episode looks promising, anyway.

iv. I absolutely have an essay due tomorrow that I have barely started writing! I can't tell if my complete failure to be stressed about this is faith in my writing abilities, sheer hubris, or really epic senioritis. All three? Anyway, I'm probably not sleeping much tonight.

I am made of happy, not least because there is SNOW tonight. Mostly, though, skdsjkds WHITE COLLAR. 1x10! Spoilers: IT JUST KEEPS GETTING MORE LIKE FIC. )
I need to sleep! Also my White Collar reactions tend to be fairly succinct, even in my own head. But when a show makes me grin so hard my face hurts, it at least deserves a tiny cut tag. 1x09! )

Okay, sleeeeep.

White Collar is back as of tonight! I am probably not capable of having deep articulate thoughts about it, but I love it to little bitty stylish pieces. Spoilers are wearing an ominous ring. & also capslock a lot. )

The #1 thing I really hate about buckling-down-and-writing-papers days: my brain decides that, in between the ten-minute bursts of productivity, it has to come up with every brilliant thing I should be writing instead, right now. For example, I spent most of this morning slowly constructing sprawling plotty post-ep7 White Collar fic.

Then my brain took a sharp turn and thought, "You know what would be really awesome? Kate-from-White-Collar/Victoria-from-due-South fic!" No but really that would be fabulous. Find the gold! Get the girl! Leave your lovesick pretty boy standing devastated on a train platform!

I think I need to get food. And to step the hell away from the internet.

I said I needed to be off the grid until Friday, barring Eastwick later tonight, but, uh, WHITE COLLAR, OH MY GOD. By which I mean I am all caught up, and I was completely on board, a little more each episode, but that last one -- I may have just sat, staring at the ceiling, stunned, for a solid minute.

Non-spoilery thoughts: I am so in love with Elizabeth, and I OT3 them so hard. (Meanwhile, Kate looks like a younger and less attractive version of Elizabeth. Why? Was the makeup department feeling lazy? Is this supposed to say weird psychological things about Neal and Peter? Do I just imagine that Kate looks like Elizabeth? I have no idea!) Much more importantly, in the last, hm, two or so episodes, I kept on thinking Neal and Peter were about to kiss and having a moment of total cognitive dissonance when they didn't. That's ridiculousawesome.

Spoilery thoughts: fsdsf;lfsjhfsd ZOMG. )

...So yeah! I'm invested. TALK TO ME. :D
White Collar, guys! I am always behind the curve on TV shows, and the only reason I started watching this one is because ... um, I ran out of SGA, I didn't want to catch up on Merlin, and I can recite most of s3/4 due South backwards; but I wanted to do something not-taxing with my brain before I embark on a sort of compressed hell week that's doing a good seminar paper in two days. To be fair, I also started watching White Collar because I just finished catching up on Chuck, a show whose virtues are quiet enough that I usually forget about them, but I needed to get to the episodes with Scott Bakula in. (One day I will make a useless chart about how everything I watch these days can somehow sneakily be traced back to C6D; bless BSG, really.)

My POINT, though, is ... a few points, actually, one of which goes, "I think I'm starting a collection of OT3s." I'm not sure this actually counts unless I'm actively fannish about them, but I'm only two episodes into White Collar and holy god you don't need to convince me that Neal/Peter/Elizabeth needs to happen. I could potentially get really enthusiastic about this show, because I've only seen two hours of it but I am SO IN LOVE with all three of them.

Unfortunately my potential enthusiasm does need to stay mostly potential for now, because I need to go off the grid until I write my seminar paper. The only fannish thing I'm allowed to do is my Yuletide. And, um, Eastwick. But that's it.
