tv!

( May. 22nd, 2013 12:38 pm)
Okay, I'm going to be at WisCon for the next five days (!!!) which means if I don't make this television post now, it's never going to get made. And so! TV I have watched & have feelings about!

Community, spoilers through the finale, shruggy but positive )

Doctor Who, spoilers through the finale, kind of ambivalent )

Elementary!! spoilers through the finale, unmitigated joy )

In addition to these, Polaris and I have also been watching Person of Interest, Polaris because a friend highly recommended it, me because now that astolat has moved on from Thor/Loki porn to Finch/Reese porn my life has been a barren wasteland and I wanted to be able to read her porn again. (I do things for good serious intellectual reasons.) We love it a whole lot?? We're only at the beginning of season two, and the beginning of season two hit me in the face with MACHINE FEELS, which will now live with my Fiiinch feels, and my John-Reese's-stupid-face feels, and my Caaaarter feels, and my ongoing dedication to Amy Acker and Enrico Colantoni. So uh that's been great? And I'd totally write the dystopia-with-robots AU, or the Batman AU, except I don't even need to.

All of this actually fails to be a rundown about what I'll be yelling about at WisCon, because what I'll be yelling about at WisCon is Avengers, as always. I don't think I need to do a Care & Feeding post, if only because I haven't done one in years past but have managed just fine, but: Amiel and I will be arriving tomorrow noon! If any of y'all are already in the area, hit us up and we'd be happy to do pre-con hangouts. :DDD

Re: Doctor Who: I AM REALLY EXCITED ABOUT CLARA! I am ... not sure I have ever been this excited about a new companion right off the bat? I mean, I loved Rose and Martha and Donna and Amy all by the end of their first episode, but CLARA OKAY.

Yesss I am pretty thrilled to have my Doctor Who excitement return to me.
I am ... spectacularly bad at having an internet presence! I mean, I reblog things on tumblr, but most of the time I'm not generating my own content and I treat it much more as a squee repository than any kind of blog, so in my head it doesn't count. In any case, hello! It is fall! I love this time of year because rather than throwing on a t-shirt and shorts in a desultory fashion and laying around wilting in the heat, I am wandering around in sweeping coats through autumn mists and planning actual outfits with layers and enjoying the turning of the leaves and consuming all the pumpkin products and generally adoring this season. Meanwhile, on the fannish front:

+ Doctor Who! Having now seen all of Amy's arc, I still think they fell down a bit in the middle with season six, but in the end they did right by her and by Rory, and I got a bit teary. I think I'll be tracking down lots of coda fic, and I may eventually compile a recs list, but at the moment, here is the first coda fic my face saw: Detectives, Adventurers and Girls Who Don't Wait Around by [personal profile] lizbee; highly recommended, made me feel much better about this whole Amy-being-gone nonsense.

+ Warehouse 13! Oh my gosh Warehouse 13, this silly SyFy (nooo it still pains me to type that) show that I've been mainlining over the past few weeks. I'm all caught up now, of course just as the half-season finale aired, so everything is naturally terrible and dire to hook you into coming back in April. In any case, Warehouse 13 is for the most part truly lovely; it has canon queers and lots of ladies (who consistently talk about plot things) and I have actual hopes for a canon endgame f/f ship and it's possibly hands-down the best show about found family I have ever seen. Actually this post by [personal profile] thingswithwings talks with more eloquence and enthusiasm about this show than I possibly could. I just love it so.

+ Avengers! Not that ... any new exciting Avengers things have happened (although I am greatly enjoying the steady influx of Thor 2 set pictures) but my stupid fic continues apace; besides all the bits that are written out of order, I have nearly 10,000 chronological words and Thor and Loki have still yet to get the fuck off Asgard, so I've resigned myself to the fact that this fic is going to be a monster. Meanwhile the always-lovely Emma volunteered to make me a Thor sundress, for which we went fabric-shopping yesterday, so for Halloween I'm going to be Thor, with Emma along as my Loki. (Housemate K, meanwhile, is going to attempt to make me a paper-mache helmet. I expect it will look quite stupid but K is in fact a crafts wizard, so we shall see.)

+ Polaris and I are watching Veronica Mars! I haven't watched VMars since college, and I forgot how much I adore it. I ... also forgot how much I ship Veronica/Lilly and any iteration of Veronica/Logan/Weevil, so possibly after this rewatch I will be on the hunt for good fic.

Today, hangouts with Sares! Tonight, contra with Tyler posse! Life is ... pretty good, guys.

+ Back from Dragon*Con! It was loads of fun; particular highlights included seeing fan buddies from far-off climes, witnessing [personal profile] tenlittlebullets' Simm!Master dancing with a Loki at the Heroes & Villains Ball, and the perfection of the panel with Juliet Landau and James Marsters. If I never have to be in crowds like that until next year's con, though, I will be very happy about it.

+ Stupidly exhausted. The weekend away was fun but not very recharge-y, and I have about a million obligations right now, and mostly I want to just sleep and write Avengers fic and never change out of this stupid oversized t-shirt I got at con which features a '60s Journey Into Mystery cover image with Thor and Loki being ridiculous.

+ I watched the Elementary pilot! I am ... weirdly having trouble reading it as a Holmes adaptation? Like, aside from their names and the thing with the bees, there was very little that pinged me as uniquely Holmesian. Which is not to say I didn't like it, because in fact I did! It was really refreshing to watch a Holmes who is making an actual effort to not be an asshole despite not doing social interaction in ways most other people do, and I like them both as characters and am intrigued by their dynamic, and yep, probably giving it a watch, as I'm not committed to too many shows at the moment and this one looks like an enjoyable procedural.

+ White Collar continues lovely this season! I ADORED last week's and was only normal levels of charmed by this one, but sfdkjsdfkjfds seriously show of my heart.

+ And Doctor Who is back! I ... man, I am so neutral about Who at this point. Mostly I feel like Moff really loves his cool set pieces but is content to let the character stuff happen off screen, and obvs Matt and Karen and Arthur are doing lovely things with what they're given, but they're not being given much. Probably I will end up writing Amy Pond frustration fic.
Last night, I dreamed that Sherlock was going to be canceled. Unlikely, self! Obviously I was projecting my ongoing Community anxieties.

In any case, here, have a Sherlock vs Doctor Who meme beneath the cut )

It is pouring rain, which is not the midwinter snow I always desire but is still comfy sweater weather, and I have painted my nails gold, just cos. Today I think is a day to curl up and talk about fandom things!

i. HOBBIT TRAILER. I love everything about it! I love all the dwarves (distinctive enough that I have tried to resolve to learn which is which by the time the film comes out, although I'm fairly sure that as long as I can keep track of Thorin, Fili, Kili, Balin, and Bombur, I'll have my important bases covered). I love the clear determination to tell the dominoed events that culminate in Lord of the Rings, because that's apparently everything I've ever wanted from an expansion of the Hobbit; WHITE COUNCIL, PLZ. And I love Bilbo so, so much. I loved him more than anything when I was four, and I don't think I've ever managed to stop. This time next year I'm going to be a delighted sobbing mess of Hobbit emotions, I suspect.

ii. Four new Sherlock trailers, while we're on the subject of Martin Freeman In Everything. Despite having felt tetchy with Sherlock ever since Blind Banker was made of fail, I am quite willing to be excited. Mostly because cut for spoilery trailer things. )

iii. End of the year fandom meme! My ability to remember what fandoms are from what years is terrible at the best of times, but I'll give it a go. )

And now LUNCH. Also, I will attempt to not be too amused at everyone's alarm over the latest LJ debacle. Come to the Dreamwidth side, guys, it's nice here and you don't even need an invite code right now.

DECEMBER! Month of tea and chocolate and Yuletide and my family's pagan-flavored festival-of-lights Christmas! I love how I feel wonderful this morning just because of arbitrary calendar things.

I finally have some clothing to my immediate right, so I am doing this meme:

Your job is now your Time Lord name. The last digit of your phone number is the current regeneration you are in. The nearest clothing item to your right is now the most notable item in your current wardrobe. The last person you texted is your current companion. Your favorite word is now your catchphrase.

I am the Intern! This seems slightly depressing as a Time Lord name, and I would much prefer to be the Writer, so I probably introduce myself like that instead. (ETA: Or, since a lot of my interning is about query rejections, I am also the Slushkiller! This seems suitably badass and ridiculous.) I'm in my eighth regeneration. My notable item of clothing is a white, black, brown, and grey striped knit hoodie jacket, which is awesome because it is both great for any nippy temperate climate and also pretty deeply weird. My companion is [personal profile] oliviacirce, which means I'm one of those Time Lords who goes for the companions that are way more competent than they are. And my catchphrase is "Gazebo!" because ... confuse the enemy?

I suspect there should also be a part of the meme that determines what outward disguise your TARDIS usually takes, but I am not sure what the question would be. Your favorite outdoor structure? The nearest man-made object you can see out your window? Something like that. (Incidentally, that means my TARDIS either looks like a lighthouse or a garden wall.)

THESE DOCTOR WHO MINI-EPISODES OH MY GOD

Bad Night & Good Night
First Night & Last Night

I am infinitely charmed by Moffat's willingness to write and film fic for his own show. Because these are absolutely fanfiction: wacky improbable adventures are happening just off-screen, but the story at hand is about these people in the TARDIS having emotions at each other. IT GIVES ME SO MANY FEELINGS. Also I do believe I want fic of this fic.

I am going to try to make this a coherent post, instead of just posting excited keysmashing in size billion font, but if you want to talk about how this show is problematic or what aspects of the finale disappointed you, you will have to wait; I am too full of giddy joy.

Doctor Who 6x13, spoilers spoilers spoilers, excitement and capslock and hopefully some coherence. )
Not to squee anyone's harsh, because wow, AVOS-style delicious, wow, but:

1. INSPECTOR SPACETIME. There is a TV Tropes page, a forum for creating the canon, and even some tumblr confessions. I LOVE FANDOM SO MUCH. Also I ship Inspector/Sergeant, obvs.

2. POTTERMORE, fucking finally. I am still noodling about in Chapter One, mostly because wow that site has way too much traffic, but I would like to be friends with you guys? Please tell me who you are! Then I will feel less lonely and more like I am Doing It Right. Meanwhile I'm StormScarlet127, a name I still secretly believe means I am an Ororo/Wanda shipper.

Well, this week's Doctor Who was (almost) entirely perfect.

I am not actually up to Thoughts, because I am too busy having FEELINGS, but wow was that amazing.

Hello the internet! I am back from Dragon*Con, as caught up on my rlist as I can be bothered to be, and feeling completely dazed and flattened, although not actually ill (yet). I had an entirely fabulous time, and circumstances permitting I very much want to go again, though I don't think it will ever be the con of my heart -- far too terrifyingly crowded. That said, this was certainly one of the best weekends I've had in recent memory.

Con report! This is a highlights version rather than a blow-by-blow. Tom Felton, various Buffy shenanigans, Sylvester McCoy, the Yule Ball, and MARK SHEPPARD. )

So that was essentially my con! I loved the hotel we were staying in, because it looked like something out of Star Wars, and I loved the three-plus days of intense fannishness and all the enthusiasm, and I am so glad I went, and now I am going to sit quietly in a corner for a while until I am functional again.

That was ... Well, I am mostly going "Huh," but actually I spent quite a lot of this episode grinning my head off, so we will count it a win. 6x08; spoilers want to know what spoilers are. )
