My entire contribution to talking about the royal wedding is, a day late, a link to two photos of the Doctor at the wedding. I'm sure they're photoshopped, but they really charmed me.

And since I missed yesterday's, two meme questions today.

5. [What do you do] when you're not on the computer?

Since I'm interning at a literary agency and write a lot generally, even a lot of my offline time, as it were, is still spent on the computer. I read lots of books (outside, lately, now the weather's turned nice) and go on walks if it's not too humid. I go out with friends on the weekend, usually for drinks (I have not yet been coerced into dancing, even though some of my friends contra dance, because I have zero coordination); sometimes I stay in with friends and we marathon Doctor Who or decide it's spontaneous cosplay time or just snugglepile-for-hours time. My offline life is not staggeringly exciting, but it is quite nice.

6. What do you wish people who read your journal knew about you?

I ... don't really know how to answer this one, actually. I've very likely already covered the things I want people to know, either in my 'about' stickpost or in entries generally. So instead let's just throw out some random factoids that probably don't come up often.

I love fruit but dislike fruit-flavored candy. I am very much a cat person. If I had a superpower, I would want to be able to teleport. I often think it would be fun to have a pet dragon. I like werewolves better than vampires. Without making any particular effort, and sometimes accidentally when I'm tired, I imitate the writing styles of CS Lewis, Diana Wynne Jones, or Susan Cooper. I'm afraid of heights, which doesn't stop me hiking steep places but does stop me climbing trees. And when I played the "Which Doctor would you be suited to travel with?" game, I always had the sneaking suspicion that I'd drive Five up the wall and make Ten very uncomfortable, so I'd better just go with Seven -- I think I love Eleven so much because he's my new answer and we'd probably get on very well.

The rest of the days. )
And here is the latest batch of Softer Universe comics! Not too many this time, because I have entirely run out of archive.

21 Doctor Who Softer World comics beneath the cut! As usual, warning for crack, pathos, and emo Ten. Spoilers through Impossible Astronaut. )

And a QUESTION! As I said, I've run out of archive. I'm happy to keep doing these indefinitely, but not every Softer World comic translates to a Who remix in my head, so not every new strip will be remixed. Would you guys prefer I post them as I make them, or in ... I dunno, batches of five? I would be happy to do either.
Ugh I should not direct-link, that is extremely bad form, but my photobucket bandwidth has expired. So here is a direct link of a photo of one of the most amazing chalkings ever, done by some of my friends ([personal profile] filia_belialis, [personal profile] tenlittlebullets, and [personal profile] songofsongs, I believe, plus some others?) on the Friday night before Impossible Astronaut aired. Because it is important to have photographic evidence of having the coolest nerd friends ever.

Um. So, Softer World comics, right? Weird and lovely on their own, delightful remixed with fandom pictures! Or at least I hope they are delightful that way, because I lost my entire mind and made a whole bunch.

50 Doctor Who Softer World comics beneath the cut! Spoilers up through Christmas Carol; warnings for crack, pathos, and emo Ten. )

I COULD DO MORE. I'm only about halfway through the archive! But I think for now it is time to take a break and do actual life things.

We seem to have a tie this round between Callum Keith Rennie and Peter Wingfield, so instead of just choosing one or the other, because it might actually be physically impossible for me to do so, it's time for a tie-breaking vote.

ETA: It occurs to me, looking at the results so far, that this is actually a poll to determine who on my flist watches due South and who watches Highlander. I don't think that accounts for every vote, but it's definitely entertaining.

1. I have picked 10 male celebrities and 10 female celebrities that I find attractive.

2. Every day, I will make a poll and you'll have to vote for the celebrity you find the LEAST attractive (not so much who you don't like personally, but who you do not find hot).

3. After about 24 hours, the poll will be closed and the individual with the most votes will be disqualified. Then there will then be a new poll with the remaining contestants.

4. After ten days, there will be one winner (each)!

Twenty attractive people under the cut! Or at least I think so. I'm aware that my taste in dudes is hilarious. Also, I could have done this entirely with women, SO MANY AWESOME WOMEN I FIND ATTRACTIVE. Anyway. )

While I was in airplanes, everyone started talking about this Female Character Flowchart. I think whenever I want to feel ragey, the quickest way to do it would be to whip out this flowchart and follow my favorite characters to some boxed-in conclusion. (The best one was Delenn. She ended up on the 'biological timebomb' square. I shrieked and threw metaphorical popcorn at the screen.) And wow I am time-lagged because I don't have the mental wherewithal to talk about why the flowchart is stupid and absurd, so instead, some linking and memetic reactions:

The Female Character Yenta Meme: Comment with a description of your favorite character and/or pairing kinks. If you only want certain media (television, books, movies, RPF, comics...) feel free to specify. Sit back and wait for lovin'! AND/OR comment on other people's descriptions with female characters or at-least-one-woman-including-ships who fulfill their character and/or pairing kinks. This is basically the BEST IDEA EVER and I have been staring starry-eyed at the comment threads. Go forth! I will go forth too when I am less dazed.

And, truncated text of a lovely meme: This post is a chance for me to go through my DW/LJ icons and post the ones that I have that feature female characters, whether by themselves, with other women, with men, or simply as part of a group (which wouldn't be whole without them). Why? Because the thing is, these women are all awesome, in their own unique ways.

Icons of ladies! Alas I don't have nearly as many as I like. But that is my perpetual icon lament. )

I think I have contracted some sort of disease of polyfannishness. I mean, I'm not actually complaining, but ... my usual fandom mode is total immersion. I am currently writing a ridiculously epic Highlander fic, simmering some due South, White Collar, Doctor Who, Dark is Rising, and possibly Avatar fics on the backburner, still meaning to go through that Babylon 5 rewatch because I love that show like mad, and, at the moment, tearing joyfully through Star Trek TOS. And this is leaving aside how I have to clean all the things, remember to feed myself, act like someone capable of normal human interaction with real live other people, and do the reading for my job. There is no way I can do total immersion in all the fandoms I actually want to. Maybe I could give up sleep?

I'm sure I'll figure it out. (I can stop watching TOS anytime I want to!!) In the meantime, I was seized with the sudden urge to make Post Secrets for characters, possibly because I am awful at having any fandom secrets myself. So I broke out Paint and Googleimages, and I made twelve secrets! I thought it might be fun to guess what character made any given secret; I think some of these are painfully obvious and some of them are weirdly unobvious, but I figure enough of you know how my brain works anyway.

Behind the cut: characters from Babylon 5, Doctor Who, due South, Highlander, Star Trek, and White Collar have secrets! They are probably things you already know, but don't tell them that. Last secret is perhaps mildly NSFW. )
Went to a wedding last night; had a fantastic time; had to actively refrain from doing Eleven's stupid flail-arms-wildly-above-head dance.

Speaking of Eleven, and how I am still married to the idea that Benedict Cumberbatch should play the Master, I even have some photographic evidence for my argument, namely this picture of both of them with Moffat. All three of them look hilariously awkward, but -- look at Smith and Cumberbatch's strange, strange faces! It is MEANT TO BE, I say.

(Aside: further wiki tabs now open for the purposes of Methos fic include crucifixion and a map of the Roman Empire circa 117 AD. Oh self. Get a new favourite character, one who hopefully doesn't require research on death by crucifixion.)

( Jun. 21st, 2010 10:55 pm)
I have a confession: for the past few days, in between all the real life stuff I have been doing, I've been spending my free time not doing more of the Babylon 5 rewatch but instead a rewatch of the Methos bits of Highlander. (Why? I need more Methos fic like burning, and with a few excellent exceptions, the stuff that is out there is giving me the "If you want this story told, tell it yourself" feeling. Oops.) I think I am discovering the full extent of my horrible weakness for 90s television. In any case, I am done with that now and we'll soon return to your semi-regularly scheduled B5-watching; in the meantime, the net result of my Highlander rewatch is mumble nearly 10,000 words of fic notes, what is wrong with me and a bunch of screencaps.

The latter are here reposted for your edification.

This is not a Show Is Awesome post. Show is indeed occasionally awesome, but I am not looking for converts; I didn't even watch the whole thing. I think it's cute, and occasionally hilarious, and sometimes even quite good; I think the bits I watched are well worth watching if, like me, you have apparently a bullet-proof character kink for five-thousand-year-old snarky bastards who occasionally save the world because their dumbass boyfriends like to play hero.

In any case, it means that this is instead a Methos And His Frequent Swordporn Are Awesome post. It started out entirely as caps of Methos getting threatened with swords and making great faces about that, but then it got slightly out of control and comes with a Duncan/Methos agenda, which means stuff like painting houses together and slamming each other against Range Rovers. As you do.

30 caps. So a five-thousand-year-old man and a Scottish Highlander walk into a bar ... )

Thank you and goodnight.
1. An absurd chart of my favourite character traits. )

2. I have a steadily more burning desire to write Highlander fic. Goddammit. At least Doctor Who has cured me of my conviction that I need to have a comprehensive knowledge of the canon before I write in the universe? I'm still pretty sure, though, that by "write Highlander fic" I mean "write hilarious fic about how Methos is four millennia older than the Doctor, so there." I don't even know, guys.
