Happy Valentine's Day! Today I am celebrating by eating some of the (frankly alarmingly large amount of) ice cream we have stockpiled in the freezer, remembering and appreciating that I have friends who love me, and giving a little something back. Here are a truly ridiculous number of kissing ficlets for your reading pleasure. (NB: I couldn't get to everyone's prompts, and for that I am sorry! I got to as many as I could, though, and I hope you'll enjoy some of those I did write.)

HAPPY 2010, EVERYONE. It's that time again; giftfic reveals ahoy.

My Yuletide: Three From the Track, Dark is Rising, gen. Writing Merriman's POV was terrifying, but ended up being a lot of fun. This fic is actually a specific bookend to my WIP post-series novella, that I started forever ago but swear I will finish someday. Yuletide did remind me how much I love writing in this world.

My dSSS: Magnificent Mile, Fraser/Kowalski. I wrote a lot of this while spending Thanksgiving break in rural Maine, hanging out at a diner much like the one in the fic and savoring the cold and the wilderness. Eventually I'm going to write myself into a corner, and then I'll be forced to move to the Great White Nowhere.

My dSSS pinch hit: Dawn, Fraser/Kowalski, kidfic. I think I'd been trying to write due South kidfic since ... at least April. Upon reading my recipient's list of likes, including kidfic, and then a bunch of other helpful guidelines, I suddenly hammered out approaching 8000 words. Bless fic exchanges for untangling writer's block and creating gifts at the same time.

And now, of course, the slightly belated fic-year-in-review meme. Total count: 23. This was a good fic year. )
You know, when I woke up this morning (...yesterday morning?) I was not intending to write fic. When I arrived home after dinner I was not planning to write fic. When I went out to see a play, I was not planning to write fic. But I got home from the play, I wrote fic.

A State of Being (In Five Steps, With Flowchart): Ray always did things backwards with Fraser. Out of order, upside-down, hanging off rooftops, putting the sled before the Dief, all that good stuff. Ray Kowalski's guide to romantic relationships. Yeah, I made a flowchart.

I don't know how I find time for anything else these days with all the fic I seem to be writing.

In any case, today is my polybigbang fic posting day! It's Undercover, which is not, in fact, the F/K/V AU I was talking about this summer, but is instead a different F/K/V. Nevertheless, I am fond of it, and also if I never write Kowalski that unable to articulate his feelings again it will be too soon. It comes with an absolutely fabulous mix by [personal profile] sionnain, which I may have been listening to for about two days straight now.

(Actually I am going to go to the gym and listen to it right now! I hope you are all having good and perhaps slightly less rainy weekends than I am.)

sklsd I am ill and should have gone to bed hours ago, but there was this fic, right, aaaages ago my friend Rigby told me that I should write Ray/Ray fic where Fraser is dead and haunting Kowalski, and the flashfic comm just had a challenge that had fun things like hauntings in it, so obviously I had to spend my whole day writing this fic! Instead of doing any homework. Or getting better. Y'know.

Carry On. What's worse than a dead best friend? A dead best friend who sits in your armchair going on about unfinished business and giving you worried looks.

I have written a lot less fic than I desired to over the long weekend (there is still a day left! I could absolutely be irresponsible and write crossovers!) but I have finished one, for ds_flashfiction's penguin challenge. Dief chasing cars! Ray with a penguin plushie! Fraser getting a clue! It is all very exciting. Follow Without Pride.
The latest in SurveyFail: Ogi Ogas' journal is either flocked or baleeted. I'm now kind of sad I didn't stay up all night reading frantically through all the threads, because they were for the most part extremely intelligent and articulate and a lot of the things that make me really love fandom. Despite the threads' vanishment, though, I am in an extremely good mood, both because of fandom at large's awesome right now and because, how surprising, writing sex apparently puts me in a good mood. (And does not make me feel crushingly guilty! Yes, under the happiness for fandom I may still be seething a little about some of those survey questions.) Which brings me to my second point!

I have, as [personal profile] feverbeats coined it, a Your Kink Is Okay Meme, with commentporn requests. I haven't done all of them; still to be filled out are the requests Nacio/Oliver Wolf, keys, belonging or, alternately, Thom/Roger; Fraser/Kowalski, handcuffs; Albus/Gellert, crossdressing; Fraser/Kowalski, climbing equipment; sexswapped Blackcest, presumably with whichever Black family members you'd like; Theta/Simm!Master; and Sirius/dom!Remus, collar, orgasm denial, and if everyone does not head over and do that one I will be, um, a sad puppy, because I have heretofore undiscovered depths of glee for that prompt. I list these both as an IOU note to self and also because, if anyone else fancies any of these, this does not have to just be a See Aria Write Porny Things party. Feel free to write some yourself! Also feel free to go back and add more, although I can't promise to fill any out promptly; I'm coming down the summer vacation home stretch and am beginning to have some real-life social engagements (and packing!) to attend to.

This said, since it is also a See Aria Write Porny Things party, here are the prompts I actually filled:

Fraser/Rodney, handcuffs & Sheppard/Kowalski, puddlejumper sex -- these of course take place in the same universe, which is a universe that just yesterday I had decided I should not touch with a ten-foot pole, because now I have an awkward crossover OT4 on my hands and I am absolutely going to have to write more of this universe at some later point.

Remus/Sirius, crossdressing -- because obviously the world needs more Sirius Black in a skirt and eyeliner! Or, as [community profile] kinglets rather more articulately put it: busting gender paradigms is hot important hot AND important. \o/

Martha/Rose, bondage, a bomb -- which is also almost certainly part of a larger story, that fic I mentioned ages ago name of The Care and Feeding of Your Atomic Bomb, which is Martha/Rose in Pete's World with bonus human!Ten, and I am kind of motivated to write it again. Although at some later point.

And finally, because it is neither silly comment-ficcy nor Part Of Something Larger, something I like well enough on its own to have actually posted it at the fic journal: high on a stage be placed to the view -- Geoffrey/Darren and a line-through of R&G Are Dead whilst they're at university, because I suspect at this point that the Slings & Arrows fandom has only one singular bit of fanon, and that fanon is "Geoffrey and Darren, R&G Are Dead, university" and who am I to argue with that? My god, I want to write Darren ALL THE TIME.

Instead, because I am on a roll, I'm going to run off and write some more of the monster F/K/V which does, in fact, have a looming deadline.
Apparently vacation is fabulous for me, because I just wrote ~5800 words of fic. On the other hand, perhaps vacation is not fabulous for me, because said ~5800 words of fic are basically porn, porn, sap, sappy porn, and this is all well and good except that I wrote the majority of them with my grandmother in the next room, which means I'm probably going to the special hell.

On the other hand: ~5800 words of porn, porn, sap, and sappy porn, due South OT3 style! It is possibly the most self-indulgent thing I have ever written, because it has dancing and boys cooking things and Rays in love (which is [personal profile] sionnain's fault) and lots about how awesome Vecchio is (which is [personal profile] feverbeats fault for giving me possibly the best three things ever re: Vecchio for that three bits of sexual trivia meme) and it has no redeeming social value. None! Isn't that AWESOME? :D

Signs of Affection, F/K/V, for ds_flashfiction's late-summer amnesty, so I made them go on dates. And now I'm going to have lunch with my grandmother and then go to the special hell.
So not only did I [a] mainline a children's show and [b] actually tear up at the end of it (I am apparently overinvested in CKR's characters having happy family lives, damn yooou, Ray Kowalski) but I then [c] wrote fic about it.

In this particular case it is [personal profile] china_shop's fault for making encouraging happy sounds when I said that I totally wanted Eric and Fraser's adventures Being Good People together. That is ... not quite what this fic is, because this fic is actually a riff on the tune of "Post-quest Fraser goes to take a Canadian posting somewhere without Ray and is not happy," except that in this particular case a Canadian posting somewhere is Gimli. So I decided to write it for the current (nearly expired, ahaha) [community profile] ds_flashfiction challenge. WHY NOT. (I think it might also have the distinction of being just as random and obscure as the HCL/Slings & Arrows crossover. Can I get some sort of C6D medal for Pointless But Fun Crossover Fic? That would be awesome.)

Anyway: 1500 Kilometers (& A Caboose). For reasons that don't need exploring at this juncture, Fraser is BFFs with Eric Johansson. And Johnny and Ray look kind of alike for no particular reason. And Zoƫ is awesome. And ... mostly I just really like the word "caboose."

Okay, I may be cheating slightly, because originally this was just an innocent OT3 commentfic; on the other hand, I keep on trying to write something for the 'day-in-the-life' square on my Bingo card, and what kept on coming out was exactly the same Saturday-morning-OT3 fic, so I have surrendered. Maybe you have seen this before, but I have given it a little polish and its own post, and it is full of, um, sparkly hearts and coffee.

Saturday, F/K/V, FLUFF. :D
So the other day I lamented that I am incapable of writing short due South fic, and promptly wrote something under 1000 words. Shortly thereafter, I lamented that I have a hell of a time writing Fraser-POV sometimes because he over-thinks everything, and in more or less the same breath I said that writing a Fraser-POV sex scene would be a logistical nightmare, because writing Fraser and writing sex are two things I cannot do until my internal filters start to quiet down, which happens at about 11PM. Cue three consecutive nights of me determinedly opening up a Word file at about 11PM and writing more or less until my eyelids would no longer stay open.

And now, brought to you by Cliche Bingo (or: that awesome fic-prompt challenge that is currently two for two on making me write things I didn't think I was capable of writing) I bring you: Fraser-POV PWP. \o/ Uh, there is porn-porn, but it is also me so mostly it is character-porn, ie if you asked me to do so I could write coherent DVD commentary about what's going on with Fraser and why he's kind of screwed up but I love him anyway. This is of course the only reason I can actually bring myself to post it, because while I am occasionally up for reading smut without excuse, I really can't write it without excuse.

Anyway, PWP with mild excuse: Name It.

(PS I am actually pleased & comfortable enough with it that I don't mind the idea of crossposting it, but [a] this could absolutely be my post-11PM fewer-internal-filters talking and [b] I feel kind of odd linking out something that is essentially "Hey, check out how I just wrote 3700 words of sex!" I guess that is probably a kind of normal thing to do on the internets, but I have no security-blanket plot here.)
One Cliche Bingo story down already! It is a due South story that is SHORT (as in under 1000 words) and is also just ... fluffy-kisses-in-Canada fic. I'm not sure what to do about that! I was insisting to [personal profile] china_shop yesterday that I am incapable of writing short happy due South fic, but I am now pleased to be incorrect on that count.

Forty-Five Years. Warning: written under the influence of Stan Rogers songs. Obviously.
Some completed ficlets for your reading pleasure!

For [personal profile] echoes: Medically Speaking; Doctor Who, Koschei/Theta )

For [personal profile] polarisnorth: If I Changed My Haircut I Could Apply For Alien Citizenship; due South/Star Trek, Kowalski & Fraser )

For [personal profile] wintercreek: taking it all apart; due South, Thatcher & Fraser )

For [personal profile] feverbeats: Saturday; due South, F/K/V )

And I am unsure why I create ficlet projects like this for myself, but I really want an actual excuse to write due South fusion ficlets. If you want Frannie in the TARDIS or Kowalski the Watcher or Fraser being hit by a car and traveling in time or Welsh teaching Defense Against the Dark Arts or Vecchio as the Advisory wizard for the greater Chicago area or everyone as mutants with superpowers or, um, anything really that I have some working knowledge of the canon for, I am your woman. Propose fusions, please!

The story of this stupid fic is a long and arduous one, but it basically goes: directly after finishing due South for the first time, I opened a Word window and, because I liked the sound of it, titled the document The Love Song of S. Raymond Kowalski. Because I had just finished dS for the first time, naturally I started writing a quest-for-the-Hand fic. Naturally the second I decided to go investigate the fandom's offerings, I realized that it was more productive to write almost anything else ever than to contribute to the body of quest-fic until I figured out how to say anything in a new way.

On my rewatch I just hit Fraser's first monologue about Victoria, the one in You Must Remember This, at which point a happy light bulb went off, I combed the scripts for the other two Victoria monologues, I built them all into one slightly contradictory monster-monologue, and I said, "Okay, self, now remix this as a story about Ray Kowalski."

I also happen to have read the entire archive of [community profile] ds_flashfiction, and the current prompt gave me a cool springboard, so rather than my fic journal, tonight's fic is posted there. So: The Love Song of S. Raymond Kowalski. THERE AWESOME TITLE I HAVE USED YOU NOW.
