Wow, this October has been SO GOOD to me! What a delightful month, A++ would absolutely Groundhog Day this whole month at least once more. I worked a lot (including learning to close, oh my god I am such a morning person, what a dumb misery closing is) and I was sick for a week solid, but everything was still so good!

Two(?) weekends ago, [twitter.com profile] flitephoto took most of the D&D group up to her grandparents' cabin on a lake in New York! We played board games and ate lots of tasty food and made s'mores around a bonfire (and sang rounds rather than telling ghost stories, at [personal profile] scribe's request and my deep happiness to comply); everyone but me jumped in the lake -- 60F, opposed to the 50F air outside it -- which I was exempted from because I still had a cold, though I did have my feet in the water and laugh at my screaming friends.

Many lovely media things have been happening to me! Housemate A bought Diablo III, which we've been playing as a household and which is SO FUN; I'm getting better at understanding the appeal of pure hitting-things games. I managed to get my hands on Ancillary Sword just after finishing Ancillary Justice, which has spoiled me horribly -- I liked Justice but I LOVED Sword, and now I'm in agonies that I don't already have the next book. In lieu of that I'm reading Kelly Link's Monstrous Affections anthology; I picked it up at a bookstore event last week where I also got to meet Sarah Rees Brennan and say good socially acceptable things instead of just hissing "I SHIP THE RYVES BROTHERS" and running away with my signed books.

I saw Jennifer's Body with Amiel this last weekend; it is SO GOOD if you like a certain type of lady-centric horror movie, and was lovely after also watching Ginger Snaps and Alien Resurrection with them, because what is October if not for horror movies? I think perhaps Carrie is next! Also, totally taking recommendations for anyone's fav horror films, it can be horror movie time any time of year.

On actual Halloween I have several Halloween parties to go to, and then I am doing NaNo! Oh god. I skipped out on Yuletide this year, though I'm still on the pinch hit list and can do stocking stuffers if I want; but it's nice to only have one writing pressure. Anyway NaNo starts on Saturday! I'm signed up at the official site this year (under Aria Woods), mostly to have a handy place to keep track of word count, but if any of y'all are doing NaNo I'd be happy to befriend you over there! November is gonna be fun :)

+ Today we went on wine-tasting adventures around the finger lakes! There was much delicious wine, some of which we bought, and ice cream in between vineyards. fsdjds I love going on vacation, and also [personal profile] thingswithwings and [personal profile] eruthros remain basically the best.

+ I have figured out my bingo line! It is five different fandoms! It's all potential fics I have lots of feelings about! This is all absurdly exciting. Oh gosh, so much fic to write. :D

+ So I may have mentioned at various points that I have lots of feelings and general love for the Demon's Lexicon trilogy. Tragically I don't think I ever made proper reaction posts when I read them for the first time -- seriously, I read the Demon's Surrender all in one day, and afterwards made a post mentioning that I'd read it and saying something about how most of my feelings wanted to be expressed in complicated plotty poly fic -- but ... maybe at some point I will do (another) reread and talk about why these books are kind of a perfect storm of things I love. In the meantime, though, I've been compiling a links & general recs list, for my own benefit and to give to various friends after foisting the books upon them, so I thought I'd post it here too.

Demon's Lexicon recs: canonical short stories, various canon extras, excellent fic; SPOILERS, oh my goodness, don't even click this if you don't want to be spoiled. )

All this Supernatural-watching is making me desperately want to reread the Demon's Lexicon books: like SPN, but in England, with fewer dudebros and dead women! Also, I am entertaining myself by imagining that on the weekends Alan Ryves, Dean Winchester, and Thor get together to commiserate about the towns their little brothers razed this week and to swap coping tips. Yep.

It was probably a terrible plan to watch Mystery Spot just before going to sleep. My dreams have been thankfully light on the creepy corpsey things (though there was a brief disturbing turn with rescuing a baby Voldemort during an exciting chase through the canals of Venice) but most of last night's dreams just repeated. themselves. over. and. over. VERY FUNNY, TRICKSTER GODS. (This is what I get for writing so much about Loki.) It also may have been a terrible plan to watch Mystery Spot generally, because I was already sold on Dean's codependence re: Sam, but I hadn't been sold on Sam's codependence re: Dean, and now I am just a wobbly mess of FEELINGS. My Supernatural-watching plans did not actually include this much faceclutching and emotional investment.

I like that season three has ACTUAL COLORS, though. And that Hollywood Babylon had meta on how horror films are supposed to be dark, you guys. But I'm with the studio exec that wanted jewel tones and saturation.

And now I will go interact with actual humans, who will expect discourse on subjects other than the ridic show I'm mainlining.

+ Gay marriage legalized in New York, HELL YES. This is still happening so slowly, but it's happening.

+ I read Demon's Surrender the other night, all in one feverish delighted go. Since my deep thoughts on the book can basically be summed up as "I LOVE EVERYONE AND I SHIP THEM ALL," rather than making a reaction post, I seem to be writing reaction fic. As one does.

+ Speaking of fic, Balancing by [archiveofourown.org profile] astolat, Thor/Loki, AU in which Odin dies and Loki is king. "He's dead, you see," Loki said, "so it's the nearest thing I can have to revenge." I apparently want a billion fics in which Loki is really not okay? Shocking. Anyway I am glad no one else is home right now, because it made me wail with joy.
It is snowing again! My Yuletide has the shape of an actual plot and is coming along nicely! I can't stop listening to [personal profile] nextian's hilarious Ode to Jamie Crawford! The world is a lovely place, so I have decided that it is time for this meme that is going around:

If you were asked to pick one scene, one shot, one detail, one moment of some kind out of all the things I've made and say "This, this, for whatever reason, I remember, this is something that struck home with me, that I wanted to keep," what would it be?

First proper snow of winter! Weather.com insists we're only getting an estimated three inches, but at the bus stop this morning I would have guessed it was about five. Snow always puts me in a ridiculously good mood. And then I celebrate by listening to the Victoria's Secret instrumental music and lots of Sarah McLachlan. Shut up, it's great.

I've also been watching Lost Girl! I do not feel really fannish about it, but it's just so lovely and stupid and cute. Our two main characters are these great women who are BFFs and solve crime; I would ship them a lot except that there are also other good canonical femslash ships, and also a werewolf detective. A werewolf freaking detective. It's a lot of things I really love, like silly and nerdy and full of pretty people, and I think quality of life is improved by watching it.

Something I am feeling fannish about is Sarah Rees Brennan's Demon's Lexicon books, which I have finally, finally gotten around to reading. I'm in the middle of Demon's Covenant at the moment, and I am so ridiculously in love. The second I am done, I am tracking down all the fic! And then probably writing some! Because I ship EVERYTHING. (Well, not everything -- I mean, if there's Mae/Jamie I don't want to read it. But possibly my OTP is Nick/Alan. Shut up shut up I know.)

I guess the point of this post is that I have hilarious, ridiculous taste. Just to prove it beyond reasonable doubt, have a link to the University of Oregon all-male a cappella group On the Rocks performing Bad Romance. With dance routines. It is amazing, and watching it makes me grin hard enough to make my face hurt.
