fumbling towards

First proper snow of winter! Weather.com insists we're only getting an estimated three inches, but at the bus stop this morning I would have guessed it was about five. Snow always puts me in a ridiculously good mood. And then I celebrate by listening to the Victoria's Secret instrumental music and lots of Sarah McLachlan. Shut up, it's great.

I've also been watching Lost Girl! I do not feel really fannish about it, but it's just so lovely and stupid and cute. Our two main characters are these great women who are BFFs and solve crime; I would ship them a lot except that there are also other good canonical femslash ships, and also a werewolf detective. A werewolf freaking detective. It's a lot of things I really love, like silly and nerdy and full of pretty people, and I think quality of life is improved by watching it.

Something I am feeling fannish about is Sarah Rees Brennan's Demon's Lexicon books, which I have finally, finally gotten around to reading. I'm in the middle of Demon's Covenant at the moment, and I am so ridiculously in love. The second I am done, I am tracking down all the fic! And then probably writing some! Because I ship EVERYTHING. (Well, not everything -- I mean, if there's Mae/Jamie I don't want to read it. But possibly my OTP is Nick/Alan. Shut up shut up I know.)

I guess the point of this post is that I have hilarious, ridiculous taste. Just to prove it beyond reasonable doubt, have a link to the University of Oregon all-male a cappella group On the Rocks performing Bad Romance. With dance routines. It is amazing, and watching it makes me grin hard enough to make my face hurt.

The Brown Derbies came to the Winter Weekend party last night. They did "Alejandro". In fact, they pretty much acted it out. It was pretty much the most awesome thing ever.

Male a cappella groups + Lady Gaga = ALWAYS GREAT.

Piotr is totally in on it too, and I bet they convince Hank to join in sometimes.

Yesssssss. Besides, he likes to sing old timey music that the rest of them don't care about (but it's funny when he does the X-Men themed version of "Anything Goes").

If I thought I could write the X-Men at all I would totally run with it.

I bet the girls like to spy on practice. Definitely Kitty, at least. Storm tries to pretend she's above that, but it's really funny when Bobby hits falsetto.

WHY ARE YOU NOT BOTH WRITING ME BOBBY/JOHN >:( >:( >:(

. . . is apparently what I have to say about this post.

. . . ARIA. Somehow my mind read this comment and translated it into an SPN context.

I've read that. It always ends badly, and yet I still want fic where the Winchesters Have Two Daddies.

SHUT UP THEIR LOVE IS

UH

okay, it always ends badly.

But I am reminded that I have a half-finished fic on my hard drive to that effect!

It's actually my SPN OTP that is not John/Dean um :D :D :D

This is reminding me that I have the weirdest personal X-Men canon ever. It's some weird mashup of movie and comicsverse.

Oh lol me too. I sometimes forget that other people don't. /o\

Ooh, good point. I think I like Evolution!Rogue and Scott better than any other version. (By which I mean, it is the only version where I don't want to punch Scott all the time.)

ARE BAD PEOPLE

SCOTT. :( :( :( :(

WELL JEEZ THEY CAN PUNCH ME >:D

But I really don't think Mr. Summers could handle it.

Except when having rough sex with Logan.

OH WHATEVER OPINIONS /o\

Hahah, a family friend of ours from Portland actually wants to go to U of O just to be in On the Rocks. They are pretty dang spectacular.

There isn't that much Lexicon/Covenant fic! I KNOW! IT'S OBSCENE.

Richard's life would be much easier if he and Henry weren't actually brothers.

Also if he were an all powerful demon, and not just emotionally difficult.

Ffff, I have to say, if it just takes adopting an evil brother to make Henry into a genius mastermind, Thomas has wasted a LOT of effort.

[personal profile] nextian 2010-12-04 07:48 pm (UTC)(link)
Tragically impossible, demons can't be relentlessly literary. But Thomas would certainly be willing to pretend if it meant Henry would have enormous amounts of needy sex with him.

[personal profile] nextian 2010-12-04 07:52 pm (UTC)(link)
What are you even TALKING about? Of COURSE Thomas and Richard have enormous amounts of sex. Why else would you even HAVE a demon? Thomas is baffled by your priorities.

DEMON'S LEXICON. I have vast love for that book/series. By which I mean I've only read the first one thus far, which is TRAGIC AND I NEED TO READ THE SECOND, because they are SO SO GOOD and I am going to stop now because I already devoted an entire post to talking about how much I love that book. IT IS SO GOOD.

Also, MY GOD that a capella Bad Romance is a thing of beauty and wonder. *basks*

Do not feel guilty about wanting all the Nick/Alan! I mean, just because the exclusively-sibling-type love is what I see it as doesn't mean it's the only valid reading! Because Nick and Alan loving each other forever is so very much what the book is about. And....fandom's tendencies in this regard is exactly why I'm not likely to go particularly near the fic for these books. OH FANDOM DON'T WORRY I LOVE YOU ANYWAYS.

I definitely need to read Demon's Covenant, though now I am very worried for the characters. THEY BETTER ALL BE OKAY at the end of Demon's Surrendur, is all I'm saying.

My love for Lost Girl (and obsession with The Morrigan) might be unhealthy, even with the overwhelming whiteness. Every episode should be someone bonding with Kenzi and include a scene with Bo and Kenzi cleaning their weapons.

Demon's Lexicon was one of my Yuletide requests! And I asked for Nick-Alan interaction, because though I do not ship them in an overtly sexual sense, they are the emotional center of those books for me and if someone could write convincing fluff, or interaction of any kind, that would make my life. Both the sibling pairs are so awesome, really - I OT4 them. Sin can come along, too.

There's bound to be a lot of Yuletide fic this year, too - I saw requests all over the letters post. \o/

Oh, and! The only fic for the fandom I've read so far is this story, but fortunately it is completely awesome and lovely. You should read it. Nick-Alan (or Nick/Alan - it's pretty much at the level of the books), post-Lexicon, fluffy. At least, as fluffy as any story with Nick Ryves as a POV character can be.
