YOU DO NOT REQUIRE TEA??
A day late, one with Daleks!
It was all right! I think it is my least favourite so far, but only because I am SO TIRED OF DALEKS. And also because I watch Doctor Who for the character work, and there wasn't that much of it this time. That's perhaps a little surprising, because it's the Doctor and Daleks, but I did adore his interaction with them. HE HIT ONE WITH A WRENCH. I keep procrastinating on having Thoughts On Eleven, because I want more episodes to work with first, but I was hoping that Eleven would be scary (in completely different ways than Ten was), and hitting Daleks with a wrench probably qualifies at least a bit.
I really had no sense of danger from the Daleks at all, though. Like, the only time I was seriously worried was when they turned on all the lights of London in the middle of the Blitz. The rest of the time, when the Doctor was messing about in their ship and when they were threatening to explode the Earth, I just ... didn't care. On the other hand, I enjoyed them? The ironsides Daleks were adorable and CARRIED TEA TRAYS. The Doctor threatened them with a cookie, and we could all tell it was a cookie about five seconds in! The new ones are super old school and ridiculous and you can PERSONALIZE YOUR OWN DALEK BY COLOUR.
Amy is still amazing! She uses her brain to save things! And her dorky historical glee warmed my soul. As did the Doctor kissing her forehead in joy near the end. ♥Eleven'n'Amy♥
The overall season arc, too, while not subtle at all, is intriguing me! I suspect that the crack in reality, and the apparent rewrite of lots of recent history that involves Ten and his exploits (ie the s4 finale), and possibly Amy herself, are all interconnected somehow. I greatly desire for it to be Time War-related inasfar that Ten's last fix messed with reality again, but I would understand if Moffat doesn't want to use Rusty's old plot devices. (What I really want is for the crack to be related to the Master trying to get free of the War, but in my heart of hearts I would much rather have recurring Master time in s6 instead.)
Anyway, this one was okay, I am SCARED OUT OF MY MIIIIND for the next two-parter.

(Example: gas-mask zombies. I never, ever want to hear a little boy with a gas-mask saying, "Are you my mummy?" again. Second example: Vashta Nerada. WHICH COMPLETELY JUSTIFIES MY HOSPITAL-ACQUIRED FEAR OF THE DARK.)
On the other hand, there are monsters that are not terrifying, just annoying. Like the Daleks. Even Cybermen have less irritating voices. And vocabularies that do not begin and end with "EX-TER-MIN-ATE!"

The forehead kiss made me incredibly happy too; it was so cute. I've seen some people complaining that Amy's conversation with Bracewell had a shippy feel about it, but while I do believe that Amy loves the Doctor, I don't think it's a romantic love. It's that he's her childhood hero come to life, and he's ridiculous and amazing and he hurt her by leaving (and her face when he leaves her with Churchill made me go D: in sympathy) but like she says, it's a good kind of hurt.
Am very tired of Daleks, though. I'm terrified of next week because not only are there weeping angels, you know there will be a horrible cliffhanger. I'm not terribly enthused by the return of River Song, but I'm willing to wait and see on that front.

I too am sick of Daleks, and I didn't even watch seasions 2-4. ;-P

Why did you not see seasons 2-4? I mean, there are plenty of good legit reasons not to see them, and half the time I genuinely dislike s2, but Ten is still My Doctor and I can't actually conceive of skipping him.

I'm not naturally a SF/F person: Buffy made me open to watching it, but I'm not compelled to watch it -- I give up if the characters aren't to my taste.
I'm enjoying Eleven so far, but I'm not especially fannish about the show. It's just fun TV for me. I'm (*gasp*) not even avoiding spoilers for it! :-)

It was strangely anticlimactic for me.
Also, Bracewell's "My Ironsides!" desperately saddened me for some reason that probably does not exist outside the realm of "Stella is hormonal".

(Is there a particular reason you hate her? Like I said, I go wildly back and forth and a lot of the time she rubs me the wrong way, but since I can't pinpoint exactly why, I like hearing other people's Thoughts On River.)

Hm.
I think part of it is how she appeared suddenly and demanded to be accepted in the present, just because she was accepted in the future (verb tenses + time travel = lulz). Which is, I suppose, fair enough, but mostly made me go NO WHO ARE YOU GET OUT OF THIS SHOW, HE DOESN'T NEED YOU!

I CRACKED UP when I realized the Tardis self destruct was a cookie. The first five seconds I was "he put a self destruct in the Tardis?" and the next second was AHAHAHAHAHA.
