three completely unrelated things
1. It is 81°F here. It's basically dark out and still this warm! Oh my god, why do I live in the South, I miss New England, I think something must be broken in me.
2. Fic rec: Zenith, a Star Trek high school AU. It's also a ... fusion, I guess, of Twilight. Wait, don't run away! It's great, honestly. I mean, yes, it's basically the plot of Twilight, only with aliens instead of vampires and a plot all the way through, but Jim Kirk is the best Bella ever, and Spock couldn't be a stalker even if he tried really hard. There's also time travel, the premise actually makes sense when Spock explains everything, and nothing is better than teenage Sulu and Chekov running Riverside's GSA and watching for crop circles. Well, almost nothing. Gaila as Alice pretty much takes it.
3. So there was a Doctor Who Comic Relief special today! (Handily up on YouTube, here and here.) Um, first I have to once again reiterate that what makes me all stupid and starry-eyed about Moffat's take on Doctor Who is that he realizes they have a time machine! It's weird and recursive and can land inside itself and have glitches, and oh my god, I can't even. Also, I wasn't aware that I could love Amy Pond any more than I already did -- I mean, yes, okay, every time there is more of her I love her more, but it is a constant delightful surprise -- and since when meeting myself I would totally get my flirt on, I am so happy that Amy did too. Amy/Amy, guys, let's get on that. I'm pretty sure Rory can come to.
...I think sometimes I am shallow. Just maybe. But oh Doctor Who! Also, rubbish, Easter is late this year and I do not approve of it being back so late. Grumble.

(Anonymous) 2011-03-19 12:11 am (UTC)(link)Wasn't it Nine who said it's not allowed to see your own self from a different time?
Just asking...
But I loved the clips anyway :D

(Of course, that still leaves "A Christmas Carol unaccounted for.)

I thought that the Reapers was a side-effect of the Time War; without Gallifreyians around to patch up the holes, the universe finds other ways to clean things up, type of thing. But in Father's Day time had already been made sort of, um, brittle by Rose undoing her father's death, creating a sort of reversed Grandfather Paradox; touching her own young self make things shatter. In Christmas Carol, time is healthy and so the Doctor can bend it without causing things to break.
And in The Big Bang there just isn't enough universe LEFT to muck up; you can get away with all kinds of crazy stuff because the entirety of reality is now less than a solar system in size. The Reapers may well have gone POOF along with the rest of existence and honestly, even if they had accidentally broken time, could they actually have made things WORSE?
Also, it’s entirely possible that I think about these things too much. *sheepish*

So it is nice to see someone agreeing with me that (a) Amy Pond is freaking adorable and great, and (b) time travel stories are FTW.

The conclusion I have long since come to about Who fandom is that I stay sanest by just reading my friends' reaction posts, and occasionally trotting over to the comms for wild speculation time around finales. It is very soothing. :)

And I really enjoy getting to see a snippet of what goes on in between adventures- I bet this sort of ridiculous thing happens on a fairly regular basis when you live in the Tardis. Also, what the Doctor has to deal with when traveling with a just-married couple. <3

Hee, absolutely. Rory even seemed kind of resigned to it, like, "Well, I'm not entirely sure what's going on but I've learned by now that it's best just to go with it." And meanwhile as usual the Doctor's making dramatic statements about how they're trapped here for all eternity, and Amy is bursting through doors announcing that this is where things get complicated, and yep, just another morning on the TARDIS.
Poor Doctor. Rory crashes the TARDIS because Amy's wearing a great skirt! Doctor, perhaps they are in need of more honeymoon planets.
