set my sights

Even I don't care how amazing my academic life is right now (and anyway I'm trying to write my polybigbang instead of doing ... any homework) so instead I offer up a list of fannishly awesome things:

i. NEW MERLIN TRAILER. I am delighted by the recurring characters, and I am delighted by this year's picks & chooses of the canon (ship wars? OT4! Lancelot can come too) and I have to confess that I am pretty sure that Gaius is not going to die this season no matter how much they doom about it. I am tempted to do a very quick rewatch of s1 before it starts airing.

ii. NEW HUGH DILLON MUSIC. I am ridiculously spoiled, because I have only just started having that "I've listened to every single one of his songs enough and now I need new material" feeling, and now there's new material! I am really hoping that iTunes will have it, because I actually want to spend money on the music but I am not sure if Canada will in fact let me.

iii. I watched Hard Core Logo with [personal profile] feverbeats today, which was ten kinds of wonderful, mostly because I have never seen it with someone and Scott was the best audience ever. He made OTP noises at all the appropriate places, flailed at the Young at Heart conversation, demanded a replay of Billy's "touch my stump," and more or less clutched my hand numb during the last ten minutes. I don't know if he actually liked it, but then I don't know if he knows either, and in any case I am full of happiness and we yelled at each other about how Joe and Billy are horrible people, so all is right in the world.

iv. A ridiculously adorable picture of Fraser & Vecchio. Why am I linking this? I don't know. Maybe because they are not horrible people! Also if I stare at them long enough maybe I will be able to write the F/K/V oh godddd.

WHY CAN'T I GET INTO MERLIN? It is a mystery!

DAFDLSK IDK IF I LIKED IT. I guess maybe I did! But in a way where I am upset! I think it was too realistic. :(

I DIIIIIIIIID. I watched the first ep and then I couldn't even get through the second one!

*nod!* Yeah, exactly! And ahaha, you have doomed yourself for your bigbang, then.

Ahaha, I totally believe this.

Go go go Aria! I know you can do it! And you know you can do it! It's just a matter of, uh, doing it.

OMG, I have issues all over the place with Merlin but on the surface level I do enjoy drawing hearts all over that OT4 + Lancelot! I'm glad it looks like they're going to go after the Gwen/Arthur/Lancelot triangle, from the characterizations in the first season I thought they were just going to have her be a servant and that's that. It galls me that they cast an actress of color for the role and then rewrite her character so she's a servant. :(

And yay Hugh Dillon!!

Errr, the way they handled Gwen was a major factor in my issues with the show. Also, the way magical men (Merlin, Mordred, Gaius) were oppressed by Uther but magical women (the singer in the first ep, Nimue, to some extent Morgana, that one sidhe woman or whatever) were dangerous and had to be contained or destroyed to protect the protags. And the way Morgana's tensions with Uther resolved were not ideal. Also, Gwen's dad dies and then we never hear anything more about that wtf. Mostly I was uncomfortable with the sex and race messages. And I didn't fall in love with most of the fic I was reading, so my fannishness didn't overcome my criticism of the show.

But maybe they'll do better this year? Also, awww, ship wars! And since when did canon ever interfere with slashing? Magic Poly Wand, please!

OMG Fraser and Vecchio! *clutches heart* They're so young! And they look so happy, as if someone really did just yell across the office "Hey Vecchio, pose with the Mountie!" And Vecchio didn't know how Fraser would react to a proper Italian man-hug but he couldn't not do it, so he sort of compromised awkwardly and put his hand on Fraser's shoulder (of course Fraser was already standing like that because Fraser at ease is a parade ground at attention). Fraser can never admit exactly how much he loves this picture but Ray knows anyway because he has to click his fingers to get Fraser's attention when Fraser's looking at it. Ray thinks the stupid hand-on-shoulder thing makes him look like Fraser's dad. (Fraser tells him there's precisely one extant photograph of voluntary physical contact between himself and his father and anyway, Ray is far too young to be his dad. Ray is like "Not your actual dad, don't be so literal.")

And then [personal profile] aria wrote loads of F/K/V fic about it and lo, it was AMAZING.

Or something.

I can't believe how long ago that was. I saw it air for the first time. I AM OLD. But my love is still strong. <3!

And I just got into it. And I'm wandering around places like this, leaving comments when I see adorable things. The pose actually reminds me, most of all, those formal-engagement-pictures some people do, which they then either put in a newspaper or send along with their wedding invitation. Just something that popped to mind, not commentary on general 'shipping trends.
