doctor who links (mostly)
It has come to my attention that I am being extremely remiss in talking about Doctor Who things, but enough news has actually piled up that I think it is time for some excited talk. (Doctor Who and I are just on break, you see; I expect we shall have a wild and torrid affair at Christmas despite the fact that Christmas is also more or less my anniversary with due South.)
i. Things about Eleven: Adorkable costume and companion again, this time with spoilery slide show! Re: spoilery slide show: unsurprisingly, since it's Moffat, we have River Song back. Or at least we have Alex Kingston back, and I kind of doubt they would use her again and have her play someone else. (Unless of course she's related to someone, as they appear to be doing with SPOILER INSIDE THE SPOILER CUT Jessica Hynes who is maybe playing Joan Redfern's descendant and doing a book-signing? but I doubt Moffat would actually pass up the opportunity to use River.) I'm even kind of looking forward to it, because although I liked River in concept more than execution, I kind of adore the age gap here. I think I'm starting to genuinely look forward to Matt Smith because I am curious how he's going to handle the "No, really, I'm a nine-hundred-year-old Time Lord. I know I look like I just got out of university. No, I know."
That I still love both Amy Pond's name and costume goes without saying. What I love about her costume is that she could be from now but she could just as easily be from anywhere in the past thirty years or so. Maybe it is too much to hope for someone who is NOT FROM RIGHT NOW, but a girl can dream.
ii. Things about Ten:
a. Okay, this is not about Ten specifically, this is a YouTube video where a little after the five minute mark David Tennant kisses John Barrowman. I'd rather have had that in, I dunno, Utopia when they were busy smoldering at each other, but it's still horrifically cute. And I have been submersed in other actor!squee, but my god, David Tennant makes me grin this huge fond happy grin. <3
b. Also a YouTube video, a sneaky filming of the ComicCon trailer for the last special with Ten. And OH MY GOD FUCK YES. I think I would muster more sheer volume of JOY if it were a good-quality trailer and all the other fans weren't doing my cheering for me, but GUYS GUYS IT'S SIMM!MASTER. I just. I can't even. I am half-expecting him to be an extended regeneration hallucination or something, and I am wondering why he has suddenly decided that a hoodie is an okay thing for someone of his dignity and power to wear, but you know what? I DON'T CARE. LAST OF THE TIME LORDS IS COMPLETE RUBBISH BUT I LOVE IT ANYWAY. SOUND OF DRUMS MINUS THE LAST FIVE MINUTES OR SO IS STILL MY FAVOURITE NEW WHO EPISODE. I AM COMPLETELY UNREPENTANT ABOUT MY HUGE FANGIRLY LOVE FOR THE MASTER.
Oh, and Donna appears to be in it too, although I think that was already confirmed. I would be a lot more excited about this if I hadn't learned by now that Rusty's idea of Good Drama is As Much Tragedy As Possible, and I'm a little afraid Donna's ending will get even worse.
And I believe that's about it! In other news,
polarisnorth convinced me to check out The Middleman; I have only seen two episodes, but I kind of love it -- it is incredibly uplifting, in a 'due South and Pushing Daisies seem to have collided and produced a comics-pastiche lovechild' way. Seriously, the Middleman never swears and says things like, "My skin thanks you kindly, and so do I," and the whole thing has that Bryan Fuller oversaturated whimsy going for it. It is the perfect thing for my mood right now, and definitely saner than watching Hard Core Logo again, anyway.
