IT CAUSED RAGNAROK
Ooh Mr. Loki: A Fan Fiction! Spoilers: not actually a fanfic, just a parody of Kate Beaton's Mr. Darcy comic.
In other news I am fairly sure I don't have a new fandom, despite the fact that, um, I have a Loki icon and a Thor tag and have been trawling tumblr and reaction posts and the kinkmeme. I shouldn't have a Thor tag anyway, I should have a Loki tag. I think Loki lights up the same areas of delight in my brain that Methos does, actually. Obviously Methos and Loki need to hang out, viciously scheming and turning on a dime and sounding entirely reasonable and deep down just wanting to be loved. But I won't write it because it's too ridiculous for words.

I really liked the movie, it had just the right amount of family love/hate/rivalry/drama with just the right amount of explosions to still mark it as a superhero movie. Not quite Iron Man level, but Marvel's doing right with its own movies.
(now if they could only make movies about the GIRL superheroes...)

ALSO YES; I like that it was definitely a superhero film, in that people in cool costumes hit each other a lot, but that it was mostly the gloss for an awesome family drama.
(RIGHT? One can only hope. Sigh.)

That's what I've been liking a lot in the latest Marvel-penned movies, they're going all out with character development in between big robot fights, and I'm loving it. Here's hoping to the sequels being as good!
I'd love a Batgirl movie. Or an Alias movie. Or Ms. Marvel.

And YES Batgirl movie, although I suppose we'll have to wait until someone besides Nolan is doing Bat-things.

Yeah - it's such a shame that for all that he's a brilliant director, he just doesn't know what to do with female characters. SIGH.

Issues 1-6
Issues 7-12
Issues 600-606
The series went back to the original numbering after issue 12 because I guess they like how big numbers look on their covers. Anyway, 603 was the last normal chapter that Straczynski wrote, after it's the giant-sized finale (also included) to sort of round things (and confuse people, it took me ages to figure it out), and then another writer took on from 604 to finish his story properly. Apparently Straczynski got into a bit of a fight with Marvel because they'd promised to let his book stand apart from events, and they conveniently forgot. Anyway after that book gets sort of a new direction and while it's still good, it's not as great. Ah well. If you like it enough to keep on reading though, you can pretty much just type 'thor 60- site:mediafire.com' into google and find most issues.
Thor: The Mighty Avenger
And this is a new retelling of Thor's origins, it's completly silly and adorable and with no relation to the parent book at all, but I'll throw it in as a bonus because I adore it and it needs more fans :D
Enjoy!

a) Methos was the origin for the Loki stories;
b) the guy who was the basis was an immortal (probably Kronos) who Methos knew;
c) Loki was an Immortal in his own right, and he and Methos were BFFs. Also, Loki knows Amanda. And the three of them have run ridiculous scams together over the centuries and have simply loved it.
Also, since Loki is a god in the Norse pantheon (not one of the Aesir, no, but still bound to the Asgardians), anywhere he IS is Holy Ground. Quite a number of Immortals have discovered this to their dismay.
(I allow for the Holy Ground thing on the grounds that becoming a god in Highlander-verse is like becoming Real in the world of The Velveteen Rabbit--it changes you in fundamental ways, and it doesn't wear off. Once you are worshiped as a god, then you ARE a god, whether your religion is still around or not. There are no provisions for becoming an ex-god...only a forgotten one.)

No! Nothing is, really.
Have you seen Scans Daily? At the moment in the comics, Loki has been reincarnated as a kid. Literally, a kid. Like, ten to twelve years old. And Odin isn't around, so Thor is in the position of father figure...and he's finding that, to his surprise, that he likes his little brother now that Odin isn't getting in the way.
Not only that, Loki really seems to like Thor, too. And he's using his considerable intelligence and magic and powers of persuasion to help Thor rebuild Asgard (making mistakes, because he is a kid, but he's trying, damn it). And Thor is protecting Loki from the other Asgardians who are convinced that the new Loki is the same as the old Loki and that he's lying through his teeth about loving Thor AND about not remembering any of the stuff he did in his former incarnation.
Thor acknowledges the possibility. But he is belatedly realizing that hating and distrusting Loki because he was different didn't teach him anything but how to hate and distrust others. And he thinks his little brother should have a chance.
It's kind of adorable.
I'm sure it will all end in tears; there are no happy forever endings in comic books. But here's the thing...the fans don't WANT it to end badly. They like this relationship. They like the two cooperating rather than fighting and hating each other. They like the idea that the gods can learn from their mistakes.

Well, that and Loki/Tony Stark FuckbuddiesTP.

Also man me Marveling it up is weirding me out too! I mean, I have cared at least a bit since I was like fourteen and X-Men became relevant to my interests, but stupid Thor is the first movie that is making me go "BUT WHAT ABOUT EVERYTHING AND EVERYONE not just these school-for-mutants shenanigans!" It is STRANGE. Fuck yoooou, Thor, at least it took DC a whole TV show and lots of Lex Luthor's faaace to make me care; you just gave me a few hours of Loki's faaace and BOOM FEELINGS.

I'M JUST PISSED NOW BECAUSE I WAS MORE OR LESS RESIGNED TO THE AVENGERS MOVIE SUCKING, BUT NOW THAT THEY'VE BOOTED EDWARD NORTON AS BRUCE BANNER I CAN'T EVEN LOOK FORWARD TO THE EXPLOSION OF HOTNESS THAT ROBERT DOWNEY JR AND EDWARD NORTON ON MY MOVIE SCREEN AT THE SAME TIME WOULD BE. >:|
I'm just really amused that fandom has pretty much exploded about fucking Thor, I assume 100% because of Tom Hiddleston as Loki.
no subject
Hahaha obvs because of Loki! Seriously, who cares about the superhero bits, it's FUCKED-UP FAMILY DRAMA TIME.

APPARENTLY HE HAD A DISPUTE WITH MARVEL OR SOMETHING. I DON'T EVEN CARE MAN, YOU GOT EDWARD NORTON AND THEN YOU REPLACED HIM WITH... MARK RUFFALO. -_-
It's just very much like Tom Hiddleston didn't get the memo that he's not in a real movie. Someone should tell him that even though Kenneth Branagh directed it's still a movie about the Mighty Thor.
I DUNNO MAN I'M JUST KIND OF TORN. On the one hand his face appears to be scientifically designed to provoke feelings, on the other hand they seem to have failed to hit any of the criteria for God of Mischief. God of Sadness and Thinly Veiled Neuroticism, maybe? God of Wistful Faces? God of WHY DOESN'T DADDY LOVE ME?

Yeah pretty much it's like he WAS in a real movie. He was selling it so hard that I was almost convinced he was in a real movie too! And then SUDDENLY FROST GIANTS or something and I would go "Right, this is Thor, not The Lion in Winter."
Ahahaha. <3 IDK I am pretty sure Hiddleston is also excellent at smirkyface, but yeah, they were mostly like "LOOK SAD, NO ONE LOVES YOU." I mean, there's certainly also lots of delicious sneakiness going on, but even so. And apparently fandom DID NOT GET THIS MEMO. Sares, fandom at large seems to think that Loki is a delicate vulnerable sub. I KIND OF WANT TO CORRECT THEM.
