Today I cleaned so many of the things! I am now too tired to properly enumerate them, but let me tell you, I am crazy accomplished. Therefore it seems like a great time for, as
feverbeats correctly called it, a meme of EGO.
Post, in your journal, a rec list singling out the best of your own fics. Tell people why you are especially proud of those particular fics, and of course provide links to them. Yes, that's right, this step involves self-promotion. How else are people supposed to find your fics? List as many or as few as you feel appropriate to represent your body of writing.
Also include a paragraph about the types of fics you most enjoy reading or are most interested in reading in the immediate future -- favorite tropes, pairings, fandoms, whatever. If you're particularly lazy, link to that Dear Writer post you did for whatever holiday exchange comes to mind.
Reply to other rec posts (like for example the one you are reading now) by reccing a fic of your own that might fit the original poster's tastes, or that you'd just really like them to read, because maybe they don't know they'd like it.
And Count Myself a King of Infinite Space, Hard Core Logo/Slings & Arrows, gen. This was born out of my genuine fascination with both canons rather than a desire to have more Paul Gross and CKR onscreen together, which I think helped it immensely. It's a story about how Geoffrey and Billy are both amazingly screwed-up people; it is also briefly a story about Geoffrey seeing Joe's ghost. I still love everything the fic has to say about both canons, especially because I went in with no plan and then magically made interesting observations.
as disastrous as to lose, Harry Potter, Remus/Tonks. This is, actually, an awful fic. It is a fic about how I think JKR completely lost sight of both these characters, and my reclamation of them is not about making them happy. But writing it made me remember how much I love Tonks, and I still love the way it transforms the canon.
calamity of so long life, Highlander, Duncan/Methos. I often think my newest fic is awesome, so this one probably shouldn't be on the list, but goddamn, I love it. I love it because, to my delight, I can do both their voices, and easily. I also love it because it has an incidental apocalypse, and Methos being dramatic.
Doctor Who Season Five, Doctor Who, Doctor/Master. This fic is dear to my heart because -- okay, I'd gone mad one summer and wrote 50k in two weeks. That's because I was nuts. When I did it a second time, with this fic, it was a deliberate act. I also just like this one better, in terms of overall structure and my knowledge of the universe I was working with. The Master in this story is a bit less Simm!Master than in the s4 project, because I was watching a lot of Delgado and Ainley that summer, but mostly I think it adds charm. Also, I brought Gallifrey back more coherently than RTD did, so there.
East of the Sun & West of the Moon, Doctor Who, Rose/human!Doctor. I don't usually remember that I love Rose; this fic is about how, in fact, I really do. I actually, contrary to all sense, also loved that Rose and the human Doctor had to go off at the end and make sense of the mess they were in. And I wanted them to make it work. This is the story of Rose growing up.
Katabasis, due South, Fraser/Kowalski. Or: my love poem to the awesomeness that is Ray Kowalski. I suspect that, given the right twisting, the Orpheus and Eurydice myth can be fitted to any canon at all and turned into an awesome fic (for instance: Rory/Amy, SPACE HADES) but it worked remarkably well in a due South context. I still love what I wrote about the Borderland. Also, it's the only good excuse I've had so far to write Bob, and I love writing Bob.
Life on Earth, Doctor Who/Life on Mars, gen. I believe this is one of the only "Sam Tyler is the Master" stories out there where awful Mastery things don't happen. It certainly doesn't fit the LoM/A2A continuity anymore, but I still like the concept. Also, this fic features my favourite closing line of any I've written.
Magnetic, due South, Fraser/Kowalski/Vecchio. This is baby's first due South fic, and it's probably still my favourite of any I've written. It came out organically, it has such a lot of energy, and -- look, I don't know if I'm the only one who's ridiculous enough to have comfortfic among things I've written myself, but this is my self-written comfortfic.
the naming of things, Doctor Who, Koschei/Theta. This, on the other hand, may be my favourite thing I've written period. I could write about my favourite characters' descents into villainy forever.
Oh You Pretty Things, Life on Mars, Sam/Gene. This one is probably too clever for its own good, but I'll conveniently blame Sam Tyler for that fault. To be honest, this is my slightly meta fic about how I can't get Gene Hunt into bed with Sam Tyler, however much he wants it, unless I give Sam tits first. It's also definitely my "I have been at women's college so long that I want to talk about gender dynamics for twelve pages" fic. I am not selling this one very well, but -- trust me, I love it.
pretty maids all in a row, Buffy/The Secret Garden, gen. MARY LENNOX, VAMPIRE SLAYER. If that doesn't convince you that this fic is awesome, I can't help you.
Terminus, Young Wizards, Tom/Carl & Kit/Nita. Wizards of Mars Jossed this one but good, but that's all right. This one is a very me story; it's about awkward college kids, and the San Francisco earthquake, and Dylan Thomas poetry, and a sense of place, among other things. I still just love it structurally, too.
Three From the Track, Dark is Rising, gen. I am so damn proud of my Merriman voice. (Let's be honest: I just love writing scary immortals, and Great Uncle Merry is no exception.) I have a lot of things to say about the Dark is Rising Sequence rattling around in my head, and this is one of those things, and I think I said it well.
And a paragraph about the types of fics I enjoy reading: I did mention scary immortals, right? Bring on the Old Ones, bring on Methos, bring on the Doctor, bring on, hell, I don't know, Kosh! (Link me to the magical fic where they all get together for a tea party. Hey, a girl can dream.) I also love every possible OT3 in the universe. I am a huge sucker for people who are desperately in love and completely incapable of articulating their feelings. And I love all stories that do clever things with their canons.
Unrelatedly, IT IS SO HOT OUT. Ice cream time.

Also, you know, all of your Doctor Who stuff. Ever. That's good too. *laughs*

And oh man, you've given me a GIANT GRIN ALL OVER MY FACE. Thanks. <3
no subject
Ahem, anyway, yes. It is a beautiful, beautiful fic and I love it to death.

And yay! Thank you. <3

Also this post has reminded me to order AWoM from my library, so yay.

I love how you love Terminus. <3 Also I am TOTALLY ASTONISHED YOU LOVE THE NAMING OF THINGS. I NEVER KNEW, MAN.

Also, I don't know if LoM would be your cup of tea, but damn, it is a great show. (Because you obviously need more shows on your To Watch list, of course.)

And clearly To Watch lists always need more on them. I mean, mine has a looooong way to go if it wants to catch up to the length of my To Read list....

I know that Season 5 is probably better in general (and has DONNA and JENNY so therefore wins automatically), but I still have a great fondness for Season 4. There are just certain bits that make me incredibly happy, like the swordfight/snogging and the squid aliens (which I might want to borrow/allude to, with credit, if I ever get around to writing more Star Trek than for 36 Stratagems).
I kind of wish I had enough posted (or finished fic to do this meme. I think a paragraph about fics I enjoy reading would involve a lot of woobies, a lot of AUs that are just slightly off the canon, and a weirdly large amount of kidfic.

Actually, Season 5 is the one with the swordfight/snogging. :D But I am with you on the squid aliens! (Actually, the way it breaks down is that I go "Well, Season 4 has Bliss and The Quantum Room and Asterion and The Living Ships, and Season 5 only has Fjemir and Foils and Arcadia in terms of really fabulous episodes, but on the other hand: Donna! Jenny! Swordfights! ARCADIA!" So it is kind of a toss-up, to be honest.)
Also, if you want to borrow the Cephei for Star Trek fic, by all means do so! MORE ALIEN SQUID FOR ALL.

*g* See, this is why I sometimes don't understand you. Like, all that stuff is great in small doses, but WHERE IS THE EMOTIONALLY INARTICULATE SUFFERING? XD
/tl;dr
...I must read them again. Hmmm... maybe if no one sits next to me on the plane I will... \o/
Also Oh You Pretty Things was awesome. Definitely on my LoM fic rec list. I will read East of the Sun & West of the Moon when I don't need to sleep. And Life on Earth is lovely :D I really must work on my own "Sam Tyler is the Master" fic more at some point, but the Ashes to Ashes finale managed to inspire and uninspire me at the same time so... whatever.
Iiii... will rec you one of my own. Rather dark, featuring the Master and human!Doctor. But it's probably my only recent fic that I love dearly.
*will probably do meme herself, again, when she doesn't need to wake up to fly in several hours x.x*
Re: /tl;dr
Sigh.

Re: /tl;dr
(I hope you have an electronic way of reading them on planes. I can't even fathom the page count involved in printing them. Heh.)
the Ashes to Ashes finale managed to inspire and uninspire me at the same time so... whatever.
Ooh, yeah, I can imagine. On the one hand: really, really interesting final word on the nature of that universe. On the other: complicates things like crazy, and also, in certain ways, boxes you in.
And yay, thank you for the link! I am all over anything with the Master and human!Doctor, so I'm quite excited about this one. :D

i'm going to rec you

I think I have somehow missed that fic, which is a horrible oversight on my part. Thanks very much for the rec!

Also:
I don't know if I'm the only one who's ridiculous enough to have comfortfic among things I've written myself, but this is my self-written comfortfic.
You are definitely not alone. I saw someone saying a similar thing about vids, that the thing about self-created works is that you can completely trust them not to squick you, and to hit all your buttons. \o/ :-)

And oooh, the self-created comfort works thing makes perfect sense. :)
