silurians have the best mesh costumes

Tonight I staggered in drunkenly and told my mum that I am kind of a lightweight. Mum laughed at me a bit and told me in turn that it takes her about a glass and a half of wine to be completely smashed. Aha! I said. Being a lightweight is genetic! THANKS, MUM.

Anyway, um, that anecdote is by way of saying that [a] we really can blame our parents for everything and [b] hi, I watched this week's Doctor Who while quite tipsy! I cannot promise coherency of thought, considering how many typos I have already corrected here.

SILURIANS. <3 I am kind of sad they are not specifically Sea Devils, because I love Sea Devils, but Silurians in general are pretty aces.

As usual, I adore Meera Syal; Nasreen is excellent -- she is an insta-companion! she applauds the Doctor's speech! she snaps his suspenders to get his attention -- and I am holding out the, however faint, hope that she might actually get through these episodes alive. As a character she seems smart enough to do so, even if the demographic odds are stacked against her. I don't think Ambrose is going to make it, though: she has Chekhov's weaponry stashed in that van. Of course, that means her husband is probably going to make it, because the kid can't end up an orphan.

I loved the kid, by the way. I wasn't quite sure what's been missing lately, but I think I have my answer: Eleven is excellent around children, and I think part of the reason that Eleventh Hour and Beast Below are still strangely beloved to me is that they use children well. So hooray for little Elliot, and his dyslexia, and his quoting of Sherlock Holmes, and &c.

Amy may have been slightly underused, but she still got a good threat and a full range of terrors in, and I liked that it gave the narrative room to use Rory. He doesn't know if she's dead, but he and the Doctor both keep their heads and keep on working, and I really, really like that. To my delight, I'm also starting to kind of ship Eleven/Rory, purely on the strength of Rory's frightened faith and trust, and the Doctor's earnest ability to connect with him the way he does with Amy. <333

I have no idea what that thing about Amy and Rory from the future waving at their past selves meant, but I'm pretty sure it wasn't just a throwaway moment of musing for them, but instead something that might be plot-important. It's just too weird and random otherwise, and even if Moff didn't write this episode, he's still basically driving, which probably means timey-wimey things.

Uh, basically, this was a good, solid first half, and I am curious to know what happens! Thumbs up.

I believe the Sea Devils may show up next week.

Oh, I hope they do!

Also, why have you not signed up for this science-fiction crossover ficathon?

Because you know you should.

There's even a Babylon 5/Doctor Who prompt going begging.

I hope Amy and Rory waving is going to mean something, because it wasn't just random, it was really silly. Hmm.

The Doctor's lovely with children, but clearly has no idea about parenting, at least by Earth standards. I rolled my eyes when he let Elliot go.
