better with el

There's my show! :DDD

I am more and more convinced that the missing ingredient of awesome from the last few episodes was Elizabeth. I mean, I was aware of that, but it suddenly becomes so amazingly clear that what Peter needs to tick smoothly with Neal is to be able to talk things through with El first.

I love their first scene together, and how the first outrageous thing El thinks to say is that she's considering sleeping with someone else for a million dollars, but she has to run it by her husband first. I think El is classier than to do that, but if she were to sleep with someone else, she'd totally run it by Peter first. HOW MUCH DO I LOVE THEM.

This little exchange between Peter and Neal is how I could tell we're back on:

NEAL. Peter! Didn't expect to see you here.
PETER. Well, I had a case in the neighborhood. Thought I'd drop by.
NEAL. Uh-huh. I'm touched! You can't handle being apart from me.
PETER. No.

LET'S RUN THROUGH THIS AGAIN. PETER CASUALLY IF SERIOUSLY ADMITTED THAT HE CAN'T HANDLE BEING APART FROM NEAL. WHAT IS THIS SHOW EVEN.

And then of course Peter tells Neal not to read too much into it, and Neal complains about Rice calling him a tool in her belt (I I can't even) and they're flirting about their awesome D/s working relationship, guys, I'm not sure I can properly handle it.

I'll move on from that scene in a minute, but first, have a screencap of Peter's face. The way he looks at Neal. They actually allow this on primetime TV?

The really excellent thing about this episode, though, is Peter's quiet sheer panic at not having direct responsibility for Neal. Of course the second the anklet comes off with Rice's permission, Things Are Not Okay. I also adore how the moral of the show is that Peter needs to be in charge of Neal or bad things happen.

I think I adore Neal under the kind of pressure where he's not doing a con for the art of doing a con, but to save lives. He gets almost stunningly sincere. I also love the constant elaboration on why Neal doesn't like guns -- for the last few weeks I've gathered that he finds them inelegant, a hamfisted way of getting something that can be had with much more finesse, but I love that it's also that he genuinely doesn't want to hurt anyone. That's probably a huge failing in a con artist, but it's a big plus for him as a human being.

I -- I may ship June/Moz. Like, really hard. They're such nerds together. <333

Meanwhile Neal is absolutely sure that if anyone can find him, it's Peter; meanwhile, Peter goes right from "Honey, I don't have time" to "I'm on my way," the second Moz's info is about Neal. El, you couldn't have said that straight off? On the other hand, Peter's little 180 was kind of beautiful.

The way that Peter completely doesn't believe that Neal would forget his anklet makes me very happy. I also love that he apparently assumed Neal would come back. The boy is not running, even if he's playing all the angles! This warms my heart immensely.

And then apparently Peter gives Neal an ultimatum that basically goes "Choose Kate or choose me," even if he doesn't say it in exactly those words. Because that is what the show's about! My god, this show.

Okay, so Neal totally stole Kate from Alex! Totally! He and Alex were always competing for Kate, but she chose Neal, or so it would seem. That's why the music box is such a big deal to Alex.
