more yuletide + general fannish nonsense

And this morning I have a Yuletide treat!

Get What You Want [Whip It]
This is a wee Bliss/Pash fic, and utterly delightful! There's the derby team being encouraging, and jokes about hipsters, and Bliss making a typical spur-of-the-moment decision, and it makes me all fuzzy and happy.

In other news, in between my Yuletide reading, I ... seem to be watching Dark Angel. I've been meaning to for a while anyway, because one can never have too many post-apocalyptic Seattle cityscapes and girls with superpowers and canonical lesbians (whom the writing doesn't fail too often, though I still twitch occasionally, aaand we did have a dead lesbian a few episodes ago, but I'm pretty sure Original Cindy makes it) and it is kind of delightful! I am waiting for it to get awful in second season or something, but to be perfectly honest I might not even notice, because I just hit the season one episode with baby Jensen Ackles and temporarily lost all my critical thinking functions -- jury's still out whether this is because I've trained myself to see Jensen's face and shut down critical thinking skills so I don't try to reach through my computer and murder the episode writers, or because baby Jensen is just that fucking beautiful. Probably a bit of both!

Drifting off to sleep last night, I began idly wondering what a Dark Angel/Supernatural fusion would be like, but that thought is better cut off at the pass, because it would turn into an epic in which Dean and Sam and Jo and, fuck it, Cas and Gabriel and Ruby and Anna, all escape Manticore as children; Sam and Dean manage to stay together for a couple of years, and when they have to split up, Dean keeps moving, and Sam ends up being adopted by Bobby and pretending to live a normal life for a while. Obviously then they meet up again and go on the run, and Dean is obsessed with finding their other siblings, and Sam just wants to be ~normal~, and I'm not sure who's after them from Manticore, if it's John or Zachariah or what, but IT DOESN'T MATTER BECAUSE I'M NOT WRITING IT.

In conclusion, baby Jensen Ackles.

Obviously, the ones chasing them from Manticore would be Uriel and Alistair. Uriel was the one who designed kids who function almost like unemotional computers (at least they are supposed to, but some of them rebelled). Alistair would be a rogue agent but he would at first seem to be the reasonable one because he has this sweet little girl with him, and look, she trusts him...and of course it would be Lilith, who would be very much the boss of him.

John would be a friend of Bobby's who started out trying to find Dean and reunite him and Sam and ended up sticking with the search because he wants to HELP ALL THE KIDS. (And kick Manticore's ass, natch. Painfully, decisively and often.)

Oh, and in this version? Lucifer is a girl. Named Lucy. Very charismatic, very good at using the truth to tell lies, and very, VERY dangerous. She also looks about as sinister as a teenaged Madonna. And she is either being held by Manticore (who want to use her as a weapon) or escaped from Manticore. Sam thinks that there is more to her than there appears. Dean thinks that they have enough probs without worrying about Lucy.

Oh, yes, Zachariah is definitely Uriel's boss, but at first he seems like a nice, kindly gentleman who doesn't quite understand how Manticore became like it is. Later, of course, we find out that it was all his idea.

Anna is living on a farm. She has VERY good papers, which help to conceal her real identity, and seriously powerful psychic powers, which don't help at all. The people from Manticore don't even want to bring her back alive. They want her dead. Like, yesterday. Oh, and she had a crush on Ruby once, but she didn't do anything about that. (Ruby noticed, though. Ohhhh, yes. And she will use that to convince Anna to come back to Manticore with her.)

Cas was under Manticore's control for a long time and, as a result, is seriously lacking in affect. He doesn't understand emotions very well. He's also so unaccustomed to making decisions for himself that he alternates between being terrified that he'll make the wrong decision and hurt someone and being convinced that if he's able to make the decision, of course he'll make the RIGHT one. This tends to lead to trouble. Sam and Dean love him like a brother, and Cas would do anything for them as well (though slightly more for Dean).

Crowley is a former escapee of Manticore who is now a triple agent. Sometimes he works for Manticore; sometimes he works for rebels; and, at all times, he works to benefit himself. He is charming, imaginative and a master of both politics and mindfuckery. Even if you know he's a complete bastard, there's still something about him that you can't help but like. And he's much, much, MUCH more dangerous than he appears.

So, basically, there is no downside.

Oh Baby Jensen Ackles. Also, Baby Michael Weatherly (as a person with a wee addiction to NCIS, I find watching episodes of that and DA back to back absolutely hilaaaaaarious)

As for the crossover, I'd like to put my two cents in for Zachariah as Manticore. Mainly because I think
[slight spoilers for S2]
conversations between Zachariah, Lydecker and Ames White (who you meet in the second season) would be highly, highly entertaining. John would, I think, be wary of Lydecker but just shoot White, which sort of reduces the enjoyment (or maybe increases it for some...)

Yes, Logan-Tony is a thing of amusing joy. Michael Weatherly is one of those guys who I really wish had a meta-verse where his characters could meet one another.

Dropping John into various canon continuities would probably end up with him shooting a lot of people, actually. I'm sort of envisioning mini-skits where you see a canon (Dark Angel, or NCIS, Buffy, Star Wars, Merlin, Smallville, etc.) and characters are going about their daily routine, someone does/says something really stupid and then bam John Winchester appears and just starts shooting.

Sort of like the cure for the common stupid character.
(sometimes may fandom daydreams get a bit violent...I should probably be worried about that)

OMG John vs the Initiative would be hilarious. I can imagine his face, like "wait, you really thought that capturing and experimenting on monsters and creating your own was a good idea?" and they get all military on him and, well, he really can't be blamed for what comes next.

And then he grabs a beer and calls Bobby because JFC just how stupid is the government?

You delight me.

Callum Keith Rennie was on an episode of season two! Just so you know. :D
