The telepath blinked, caught off guard. "What? No, I wasn't—"
"You were about to. You did that... hand thing, resting it against your temple, like so." Erik emulated the younger mutant, placing his fingers against his temple, his thumb on his cheek. "It's really a terrible tell."
Charles' history as an Oxford cad was all that kept him from blushing. Had he really been about to read Erik, subconsciously? He shook his head, trying to clear the image of Erik grabbing him and sweeping him off of his feet. "No, my friend, whatever you were thinking, it was a mistake. I promise, I would never do anything like that without your permission."
"Just remember," Erik said, this time faux-serious, "the last man who broke a promise with me ended up a paraplegic."
