I really hope this is just a weeklong whirlwind romance, I have THINGS TO DO
While a lot of my flist is excitedly posting about going to WisCon, I ... went to see Thor again.
It's actually really hard to watch when one is watching for the express purpose of following Loki's arc and motivations. I spent a lot of the film wide-eyed and clutching my face. (I really need to stop falling in love with the villains. They always come back, which is great, but they never catch a break either.) Now I have more than enough in my head to Write A Fic! I hope that by announcing this, I will either do that thing where I feel accomplished enough for just announcing it that I leave it be, or that I write it quickly and move on.
Also, what the hell, RECS TIME.

bagheera_san: Lex/Loki. It would seem ironic, the trickster wanting revenge for a lie, but Lex understands perfectly. Some crimes are unforgivable between father and son. And some beings offend merely by existing. I don't know about you guys but I want a billion Lex/Loki fics now. No one is surprised that I love this one.

quiddative: Thor/Loki. "While Thor and I respect the customs here on Earth, you have to understand that we have been raised under completely different social conducts." Five times Thor and Loki horrified the other Avengers, and one time the Avengers shrugged and dealt with it. This is hilarious.

bluestalking: Loki gen. Loki’s reaction to this was bad, as he never liked a lie he did not contrive himself. Thor retold as Loki's story in Old Norse prose in translation. This understands Loki so well, and also fixes the ending, and I love it a lot.

My fear of faux pas aside, thank you for linking the "Lokisaga." It was so freakin' good.

You're quite welcome! It is pretty brilliant, isn't it? :)

And I coughtotallytookakatebeatoniconfromyou, and I felt guilty, so I thought I'd ask now, before I post again and people are all like "man, that lowkey guy, what a pilferer!"
As for the really topic at hand: yeah, it's totally a way better telling of Loki's character "development." In the movie, it's as if Loki was suddenly all like "hey, up till this point, I've used subterfuge to solve all of my problems, but maybe this whole unsubtle use of violence thing has something going for it, amirite?" and Thor's like "don't worry bout that, bro." In the Lokisaga, the whole things makes much more sense.
A good friend of mine pointed out that the whole movie makes so much more sense if you believe that Thor was on Earth for, say, four months, rather than three days. Just enough time for him to learn to be humble (serving dinner at the local diner?), and enough time for Loki to go batshit crazy, all while everyone is like "Odin is assssllleeeeeeeep."

And yeah, seeing Loki's interior life really helps make his actions make a lot more sense. I also think that Thor being on Earth for three days is totally absurd -- there's no way he could have made any lasting positive changes for himself in that time, plus, yeah, I don't think Loki would crack that quickly even if he was feeling sort of abandoned and betrayed. I like the couple-of-months suggestion.

Once I have the time, I'm totally writing the "four months gone" fanfic. IT WILL BE AWESOME. Baldur and Gerðr can show up and everything. Also: Thor as diner server and small-town handyman.
