my icon is a ship joke
i. Something I love about the slush pile is the names. Oh man, the names! They are fannish with weird regularity. Last week, I rejected queries by a Harris and a Rosenberg in succession. Today, I got to write a polite note to Mr. Scotty! I don't remember what his query was about, but I hope it was something like A Guide to Practical Engineering in the Twenty-Third Century.
ii. For some absurd reason, I am trying to work out Highlander and Buffy timelines. Because, y'know, the First Evil and the Bringers blew up all these Watcher headquarters, and Adam Pierson has this nice place in the English countryside where all the new Slayers can train! House rules: no practicing decapitation indoors, or, in fact, anywhere near Mr. Pierson. (What is wrong with me.)
iii. There is a pairing meme going around! I like memes.
Nine ships you are into right now:
1. Eleven/Amy/Rory
2. Kirk/Spock
3. Neal/Peter/Elizabeth
4. Sheridan/Delenn
5. Duncan/Methos
6. Fraser/Kowalski
7. Doctor/Master
8. Kara/Leoben
9. G'Kar/Londo
(Oh my god, self, TOO MANY DICKS ON THE DANCE FLOOR. >:/ )
Three ships you don't really like:
10. Delenn/Lennier
11. Neal/Kate
12. Ten/Rose
What would be your ideal scenario for couple three?
Neal/Peter/Elizabeth! I want them to all move in together and live happily ever after, and in fact I have ... half-convinced myself that, assuming the show gets enough notice before being taken off air, it's what will happen. I don't literally expect Neal to move in with Peter and El, but I do pretty much expect that Neal will come to the end of his parole term, sign up as Peter's actual no-sanctioned-by-the-government-kink partner, and he'll just hang out with Peter and Elizabeth all the time and be part of their family. This is in fact my ideal scenario!
Which is your favorite moment for couple one?
Eleven/Amy/Rory! Um, warning for s5 finale spoilers! I am very tempted to say "THE ENTIRE LAST EPISODE" is my favorite moment, but I will limit myself to the very last scene, when Amy and Rory decide it's time to say goodbye, and shout "Goodbye!" to the world, and then they share delighted looks with the Doctor and all three of them gallivant off on their madcap honeymoon. I can't actually watch that scene without tearing up a little and smiling so hard my face hurts.
How long have you been following couple six?
Fraser/Kowalski! And, hmm, since about January 2009. I knew that they existed as a fairly prominent ship before that, because I don't live under a fandom rock, but I watched due South over winter break '08 and in early January '09 my delicious EXPLODES with recs and joy.
What's the story with eight?
Kara/Leoben! Ahahaha. Um. The story with eight is that I am stupidly in love with Kara Thrace, and was fascinated by her interaction with Leoben in Flesh and Bone (this was before I knew who CKR was; in fact, it's BSG's fault that I sat down to watch due South). I am not very good at finding either Lee or Sam particularly interesting people, and ... look, sometimes I like my ships super creepy. I love Kara's s3 arc with great passion. And I will probably never quite forgive them for dropping the ball in s4.
You have the power to make one ship non existent. Choose between ten or twelve.
Delenn/Lennier or Ten/Rose! That's ... difficult, actually. I love Ten and I love Rose, but when they are frolicking and slowly but surely derailing Rose's character, I get sad. Similarly, I love Delenn and I love Lennier, but when Lennier is pining and s5 viciously derails his character, I get sad. I think Delenn/Lennier, though, because Doctor Who would be a completely different show for a few seasons, while Babylon 5 just gets a tidy brush-up and I can love Lennier in peace.
Which ship do you prefer, two or four?
Kirk/Spock or Sheridan/Delenn! This question is unfair to Sheridan and Delenn because I am watching ALL THE STAR TREK right now, but I think Kirk/Spock would win anyway. I love and am charmed by Sheridan/Delenn, but dammit, Delenn made a political decision and is sticking to her guns, and while I love how completely fucked-up they are in theory, in practice I just want to smoosh them fondly together and leave them to their own devices. Kirk/Spock, on the other hand, is stupidly epic and makes me flail with joy. Kirk makes Spock have ~emotions~, and Kirk loves Spock enough to disobey his oath to Starfleet because SPOCK IS MORE IMPORTANT, and they touch inappropriately and stand no inches apart, and sometimes they go camping with their BFF Bones, and god, I can't even. *_*
How do you feel about seven?
Doctor/Master! I really, really love them, for a number of reasons. First, they're one of the only OTPs I've ever acquired in a vacuum, by which I mean I wasn't really fannish about Doctor Who previous to s3 of the new series, so I'd never even come across the suggestion; I was deeply interested by the end of Utopia, and a nothing-will-convince-me-not-to-ship-them shipper by the end of the phonesex in Sound of Drums. So they're my construction, in a way that probably none of my other OTPs (besides perhaps Londo/G'Kar) are. Second, adoring the Master's character gave me a structure within which to watch lots of old school Doctor Who; I love an OTP that is played by a whole string of actors and which I ship almost all the time despite that. (Poor Four and Eight. They get Crispy and Goosnake. I suppose Eight can have Jacobi if he likes, though.) Third, Doctor/Master has been fandom magic for me. All my best/longest/most-read Doctor Who fic is that pairing's fault, and I even managed to acquire a whole cadre of excellent RL friends thanks to wacky Doctor/Master-related hijinks. It is a pairing that just keeps on giving! I am crossing my fingers so much for Eleven to acquire a Master soon.
Does your affection for nine affect your love of the show?
G'Kar/Londo. And ... that's a kind of complicated question, with Babylon 5. The plot stuff and the character stuff are so interconnected! Their character arcs are hands-down my favorite thing about B5, though, and you can't really have one arc without the other. I think the answer is a definite 'yes' by season five, though; due to convoluted circumstances, the Londo-and-G'Kar arcs were the only ones that weren't mostly wrapped up by the end of s4, so while a lot of s5 is weird filler and ticks me off, the G'Kar/Londo bits are kind of perfect and wonderful, and mean I will defend that season to the death.
What's a song that reminds you of five?
Duncan/Methos, which is serendipitous, as lately I've been spending my morning bus ride making Highlander vids in my head. The two of the moment are Vienna Teng's Enough to Go By and Thea Gilmore's Heads Will Roll, which I promise is appropriate for reasons besides the title. Um. I swear I think these guys could have a healthy relationship? /o\
Have two kissed yet?
Kirk and Spock! Um, I believe there is cheek-kissing in the sixth movie that I haven't seen? Also, they mindmeld a lot! Hey, if you'd asked me Fraser/Kowalski I could have said yes triumphantly, but I love how this meme vaguely assumes canon ships. (Also, all the other unequivocal yeses involve het ships. Sigh.)
Did four have a happy ending? If the show hasn't ended yet, do you think a happy ending is likely?
Sheridan/Delenn. Aha. Ahahaha. AHAHAHAHA. IF YOU GO TO ZA'HA'DUM YOU WILL DIE, DUMBASS. To be fair, they had an apparently fulfilling and adventuresome twenty years, and I think Sheridan actually felt like the deadline was a gift. Delenn is more than strong enough to handle it, too, and besides, she'll have Ivanova to help her run the Rangers, which seems like a fairly good ending all around. More than that, though, I grew up on the Lord of the Rings; I know that if Sheridan goes away beyond the Sea, Delenn will get there too one day. So I think the answer is yes! And we even got to see the ending, which is pretty cool. God I love Sleeping in Light.
If only one could happen, which would you prefer, two or six?
Kirk/Spock or Fraser/Kowalski.
404 Error. Answer not found.
No, but seriously, I CAN'T DECIDE. I mean, both of them kind of did happen, although since Fraser/Kowalski was thirty years later, Paul Gross was a bit less cagey about it. I would have loved their romance to be explicit at the end of the series, but I'm fairly content with what we got. Meanwhile, since we have a goddamn reboot on Star Trek and we're in 2010, ffs, I would really like some visible queers in Starfleet the way they had visible black women and Asians and soforth back in the day. But the way the reboot is set up, I am all in favor of Spock/Uhura, provided Uhura gets things to do besides be the Love Interest Who Intercepts Plot Points, and I don't particularly want any ladies sidelined because Slash Is Important. So I think I would like explicitly canon TOS Kirk/Spock, please.
You have the power to decide the fate of eleven. What happens to them?
Neal/Kate. Oh, this is easy! Kate is not fridged, but is instead quite alive, and has been playing Neal for years. Neal finally does the rest of the emotional work he needs to do to separate what he imagines he wants (Kate, no responsibility, and a beautiful domestic life with her) from what he has and needs (his job with the Bureau, doing good work, partnering with Peter, having the Burkes-and-June-and-Moz-and-agents family that loves him); he helps take Kate down and they put her away. I am really, fervently hoping that this happens in the show, because anything else would be deeply uncool.
Which was your original OTP?
Of these, none; baby's first OTP was Frodo/Sam, and the first pairings I wrote a lot of were James/Lily and Remus/Sirius.

NOTHING IS WRONG WITH YOU, BB. Please to keep writing ridiculous crossovers just because you can.
Look, I will use my Methos/manuscript icon to encourage you.

On the other hand, Methos and Faith! Joe and Giles! *draws hearts*

Methos and Faith would be amazing. Faith would be like, "Don't you understand? I did BAD THINGS." And Methos would be like, "Oh. Honey. It's okay, it was one guy." Also, Giles and Joe are kind of BFFs. This is fact.

Yes. That is the Arrow of Apollo. *coughcough*

Butbutbut according to Lorien, Sheridan goes
into the westbeyond the rim, but only First Ones and Sheridan get to go there. Delenn apparently is still going to be reincarnated forever and ever amen. Hell, I don't even like them together and that bums me out. :(no subject

Played by Benedict Cumberbatch, with any luck.
I mean, look at their FAAAAAAACES. Matt Smith and Benny are both seriously aliens who are trying really hard to fit in but not quite getting there.

The Case of the Unwelcome Owl. In which Sherlock gets invited to a wedding and gets outed as the squib of a magical family which explains so much. Best of all, there's a wonderful take on Luna Lovegood, who is clever and funny and wise and still very much LUNA. Also, I now want to adopt John Watson just on principle.

It features Oz playing at Joe's. :)
