Dunno if this'll help at all, but I've found at least one community that does discussion as well as fic, which might allow you to feel more connected with the opinions of the fandom. You can find it here (http://community.livejournal.com/highlander_lj/). I haven't looked at much of the discussion yet, though, so I can't tell if it's what you're looking for.

Anyways, you should TOTALLY not feel apologetic for writing Highlander fic, because fandom is all about id-y goodness, and if Highlander hits that for you? Then that is a GOOD thing. And you should write Highlander fic forever.
