take the sky

I had a great day out yesterday! Although by 'out' I mostly mean 'in movie theatres with a break for dinner.'

First I saw How to Train Your Dragon, which I had little interest in seeing but went to spend time with my friends; I ended up pleasantly surprised! The dragons were damn cute; the protagonist really grew on me; the animation was gorgeous; I became genuinely anxious and invested in the plot; and, as a cherry on the awesomecake, near the beginning of the film [personal profile] sasha_feather leaned over and whispered something along the lines of "Does the main character's difference from the rest of his village seem like a metaphor for gayness to you?" which, yes, it did, and meant that in a later scene where the protagonist's dad asks if he's keeping secrets, Sasha and I were unsuccessfully trying not to howl with delighted laughter. We're in ur kids movies, queering ur text!

In the evening [personal profile] themeletor and I went to Can't Stop the Serenity. That too was surprisingly fun! We were late, and therefore missed the first two acts of Dr Horrible, which meant we were just in time to watch starting at the place I usually stop watching. In fact, I'd only seen Act III and Serenity once each, so it was an interesting refresher. Knowing what was coming in Serenity, this time I was able to sort of re-envision it as ... probably the second half of hypothetical third season? That seems about right in terms of plot arc and timing of character death. I am so damn sad Firefly couldn't have kept being a show. (On the other hand, though, having seen How Much Is That Geisha In The Window -- which cannot be unseen, nor should it be -- plus having mainlined the Avatar TV show over the past week ... Man, where the fuck were the missing Asians, guys? Oh Firefly, what mixed feelings I have about you.)

Completely unrelatedly, a meme I stole from [personal profile] icepixie: Those of us who don't participate in the annual Remix challenge -- and, hell, those of us who do -- sometimes wonder which one of our fics someone might remix, and if so, what they might do with it.

So, guys, which would you pick? Here's my fic. If you also respond with a link to your fic (or post this in your journal), then I'll tell you which of yours I'd remix and how.

And Count Myself a King of Infinite Space! Because... I am overly ambitious. Also because I love love love S&A and have in fact seen HCL, and remixing would give me the opportunity to natter about punk AND Shakespeare, two tastes that taste great together! Perhaps only in my head, though.

Iiiiii will do this meme perhaps later tonight, so as not to post two entries within an hour of each other. *G*

AVATAR AVATAR AVATAR OMG IS IT NOT THE MOST LOVE? IS IT NOT LIKE A WARM FUZZY BLANKET FOR YOUR SOUL? I want to rewatch now.

As regards the remix meme: the one that leaps out at me is One Continuous Singular Incident in the Life of Faith Lehane. There are a couple of ways a remix could go -- the most obvious idea would simply be to take the story from the Doctor's point of view, but there'd also be distinct possibilities in starting with Penny and the currently unseen Mr. Marlow and working toward the original climax from there.

Turnabout being fair play, here's my AO3 page. (And I think, having done this twice now, I probably ought to go post the meme in my own journal....)

Well, right now I'd remix everything you write as an Avatar crossover, but I'd want someone to remix naming of things -- not because I can think of anything I'd rather do to it (though I feel like you've done the meme before and I've given you a better answer then? is that true?) but because I'd be fascinated to see what someone could change about it. Not a Theta-POV remix, that'd be boring, but maybe an erasure.

Haha, I am not sure I have the stamina! I'd end up getting bored and just leave in all the Theta. You know, 276 repetitions of "Theta Sigma." Theta. Theta Theta's Theta Theta "Theta!" Theta "Theta" Theta CONTROLLLLLL Theta.

(Did you know that you only used the word "master" twice, both in like the first page, and the word control only about six times? Baffling.)

The fic I'd choose to remix would be "And This Time I'll Remember" -- I'd probably do the obvious remix, and write about how Nicholas was right to fear that it was actually him. Because that would be a really interesting story, though much darker than the original!

Like Emma I am not sure that there would be much I could do to the naming of things but it would be AMAZING to try. I'd probably tweak it into AU-ness.

I am sad that this is DW and so I don't have my How To Train Your Dragon icon uploaded to wave at you. Get the soundtrack! The soundtrack is magic!

I don't think I could do ANYTHING to improve the naming of things, as it's my notion of a fic that's absolutely perfect.

I think that I'd try a remix of Nor Love So Sweet from Susan's point of view.

Which of my stories would you remix?

Here are my fic lists:

I think I'd remix Forty-Five Years, actually. Whether it would be a simple switch to Fraser's POV or a drastic re-envisioning, I do not know.

What would you remix of my fic?
