one of those knights looking for the holy grill
Oh today. I don't even know what to do with it; suffice to say that I have spent roughly $50 on necessary but unwanted stuff, gone into town on three separate occasions to get the same damn thing, tripped down the stairs, and actually accidentally stepped in dog shit. Looked at one way, clearly I have some petty bad karma to work out; looked at another, I have actually done everything I needed to do, I got a few nice walks in, I am undamaged from my fall, and I'm pretty sure my shoes are clean. I'm still very ready for it to be tomorrow.
There is fail on the internet (surprise!!) but I would much rather link to 119 Ways to Store and Organize Your Cats. Also, I have a meme:
Comment on this entry with a pairing I ship from one of my fandoms and I will tell you:
1. When I started shipping them
2. What I think their challenge is
3. What makes me happy about them
4. What makes me sad about them
5. What moment I wish had never happened
6. Who I'd be comfortable them ending up with, if not each other
7. My happily ever after for them
Okay, White Collar time. It'd better be good.

You should talk to me about Doctor/Master to cheer up. *nods*

Pairings: Peter/El/Neal, Tom/Carl, and Buffy/Faith!

Also, ahaha, your day. I'm sorry, dude.
AAAAAH WHITE COLLAR. I just watched it! No spoilers for you, but it had a lot of great bits.

But 'ships are happy-making!
Sam/Gene ('Life on Mars' just started playing on my music, hee) or Holmes/Watson (I was looking at your fic recs and am now completely addicted to a fantastic H/W author you linked to!)

Doctor/Master:
1. When I started shipping them: I think they had me from "Use my name"/"Master" in Utopia, but I was 110% sold by the phone call in Sound of Drums.
2. What I think their challenge is: Oh boy oh boy. What isn't their challenge?? They have no safeword! Their emotional timing really sucks! They have diametrically opposed viewpoints on how the universe works!
3. What makes me happy about them: Heh. See my answer to #2! No but really, I love how they spark off one another; I love the huge weighty backlog of shared history; I love their ability to banter; I adore this certain pattern they have, which basically goes 'Master summons evil things; he cannot control said things; Master and Doctor team up to save the universe.'
4. What makes me sad about them: There is never, ever, ever going to be a happy ending for them. Or the right time and place for them to even be happy momentarily.
5. What moment I wish had never happened: THE TV MOVIE OMG.
6. Who I'd be comfortable them ending up with, if not each other: I will ship the Doctor with an alarmingly long list of people, but by definition I don't think he can end up with anyone. The idea of shipping the Master with anyone else ... actually does not compute.
7. My happily ever after for them: *coughdwseason5cough*

Appropriately enough, Peter/El/Neal:
1. When I started shipping them: ...The pilot? I don't actually recall a moment after they'd all appeared on screen together that I didn't ship them.
2. What I think their challenge is: Well, Peter is legally in charge of Neal and it would be deeply unprofessional to have a sexual relationship with him within their four-year limit. Also I imagine that El would have to coax him into [a] admitting attraction to Neal and [b] deciding that they should all do something about it. And I suspect that Neal might worry about screwing up Peter and El if he got involved with them.
3. What makes me happy about them: EVERYTHING. Peter and Neal's epic trust! The way that Peter and El can tell each other anything and everything! How El and Neal apparently spontaneously run to one another with their problems! How weirdly fuzzy and domestic they all are!
4. What makes me sad about them: Um ... they're not actually an official OT3 on screen? I dunno, nothing makes me sad about them except that they are not explicit canon, and it's not like I'm actually ever expecting that.
5. What moment I wish had never happened: That awful lack of El in the past few episodes!
6. Who I'd be comfortable them ending up with, if not each other: Well, obviously Peter and El have to stay together! I ... really don't know about Neal. Weirdly enough I'd be much happier shipping him with June or Mozzie than with the canonical love interests, ie Kate or Alex.
7. My happily ever after for them: All three of them living in the Burke household, with Neal walking Satchmo and buying them good coffee, and Peter and Neal fighting crime, and sometimes El fighting crime and always keeping them from getting too emotionally inarticulate. *covers them in hearts*
Tom/Carl:
1. When I started shipping them: Wow, I first read the YW books so very long ago that I'm not sure. I may have spontaneously started shipping them when I first met them, though, and I definitely did by Deep Wizardry.
2. What I think their challenge is: Hm. Re: The Book of Night With Moon, the auxiliary book about the cats at Grand Central, [spoiler redacted in case you haven't read it] made me realize that, since both of them are Advisory-then-Senior wizards, their Art and their professionalism necessarily has to come before their relationship, and sometimes that's going to be painful and scary.
3. What makes me happy about them: They live together in a house full of sheepdogs and prophesying fish!! I completely adore all the moments like the beginning of Wizard Alone, when they're banter-fighting about duct tape and electrical maintenance. Their relationship is pseudo-canon without ever being a highlighted issue, and I love the way it just is.
4. What makes me sad about them: They never get as much screentime as I want them to! I realize that's silly, though.
5. What moment I wish had never happened: I really don't think there is one!
6. Who I'd be comfortable them ending up with, if not each other: Does not compute.
7. My happily ever after for them: That they continue on exactly as they are, actually!
Aaaaand Buffy/Faith:
1. When I started shipping them: Probably s7? The most recent time I watched Buffy, I know that I was shipping it hard from the moment Faith turns up in s3.
2. What I think their challenge is: Faith's bout of evil is definitely a biggie. Also, they're both really damaged people, and while they can connect on a Slayer level, I'm not sure that their damage is of an entirely compatible kind.
3. What makes me happy about them: They can kick so much ass together! They have both been the only girl in all the world who blah blah and that would keep them connected in a world with hundreds of Slayers. They challenge each other's viewpoints and in the main that could be really healthy and productive.
4. What makes me sad about them: They're both such. damaged. people. They might have too many issues to ever properly work out.
5. What moment I wish had never happened: I don't think there is one?
6. Who I'd be comfortable them ending up with, if not each other: I think Faith/Willow might be really excellent! Meanwhile in my soul I ship Buffy/Angel and Buffy/Spike, so there. (Fucked-up OT3?? PERHAPS.)
7. My happily ever after for them: Being an awesome Slayer team together! Possibly they could get a house somewhere with the other Scoobies nearby.

It was an okay day! Mostly just absurd. <3
Ellen/Geoffrey/Oliver:
1. When I started shipping them: I think the Geoffrey/Oliver occurred to me sometime in the third episode, when Geoffrey's in prison? Or I started shipping it then, because everything occurred to me during the flashback in the first episode. I think I was shipping Geoffrey/Ellen by the end of first season, because the first-episode-of-s2 makeouts made me shriek with joy. And obviously Oliver/Ellen is a TERRIBLE IDEA.
2. What I think their challenge is: Uh, let's see! Ellen is a horrible person and Geoffrey is nuts and Oliver is dead! IT'S SO GREAT. :DDD
3. What makes me happy about them: See my answer to #2! Also I love how horrifically tangled and complicated their relationships are; I love how Geoffrey is sort of blind about the whole thing, both in the blindly-in-love-with-Ellen sense and the deliberately-obtuse-about-Oliver's-thing-for-him sense. I love how much all three of them love and resent one another.
4. What makes me sad about them: Ellen never got to see Oliver! Also Oliver is just sort of ... pining away. GOD GUYS GO OUT AND BUY CURTAINS TOGETHER.
5. What moment I wish had never happened: I think this question actually doesn't compute.
6. Who I'd be comfortable them ending up with, if not each other: Well, obviously Oliver dies in the arms of some cabana boy, Ellen fucks her way through all of New Burbage's under-thirty male population, and Geoffrey runs away with Darren.
7. My happily ever after for them: Well, Geoffrey and Ellen move to Montreal, as they do, and start up a theatre company there. Oliver comes with. Geoffrey is a little horrified by this, but eventually gets used to the way Oliver will always be around. Ellen sees Oliver too! They all bitchily insanely endearingly cohabit. Oliver tries to make them breakfast, which doesn't work, and backseat-direct, which sometimes does. THE END. :D

AAAAAAAH THEM. I really want to read fic where Geoffrey freaks out and runs away with Darren.

Sam/Gene:
1. When I started shipping them: ...Probably around when Gene slammed Sam into that filing cabinet in the pilot! Yeah.
2. What I think their challenge is: Oh dear. Well, Gene Hunt is a homophobic bastard police officer in the 1970s, which I imagine would be kind of a road block. Also, it's not like Sam would make it easy, because he spends most of his time fighting Gene anyway.
3. What makes me happy about them: Sam makes Gene a better person! Gene makes Sam a ... more human and almost certainly much happier person! They fight each other! They do that synchronized policing thing!
4. What makes me sad about them: I don't know if they could ever be really happy or comfortable being with each other even if it was necessary to be together.
5. What moment I wish had never happened: Mm, I don't very much like how in the finale Sam goes back to the s1 notion that maybe if he destroys Gene he'll wake up.
6. Who I'd be comfortable them ending up with, if not each other: Well, I suppose Gene could stay with his wife and Sam could be happy with Annie? I can live with that, anyway.
7. My happily ever after for them: They drive off into the sunset together and fight crime forever!
And Holmes/Watson (also: YAY for that author! HER STUFF IS FANTASTIC):
1. When I started shipping them: I honestly don't know! I suspect I went into the stories assuming that they were having a thing.
2. What I think their challenge is: They are a couple of Victorian gentlemen who have quite a bit of public attention on them, so they'd have to be very discreet. Also, I suspect that Holmes would take a while to get around to the idea, since he does his best to eschew emotional passion.
3. What makes me happy about them: THEY FIGHT CRIME! (I am sensing a pattern emerging.) They have the utmost respect for each other, and their friendship makes me glow.
4. What makes me sad about them: The two-year period where Watson thinks Holmes is dead sort of rends me.
5. What moment I wish had never happened: It would be a lot easier to ship them comfortably if Watson didn't have off-screen wives! (This is why I am fond of the new film: MARY IS AWESOME. But if I was doing film-canon I think I'd start answering all these questions a little differently.)
6. Who I'd be comfortable them ending up with, if not each other: Watson can totally be with film!Mary, that would be awesome. I can't actually imagine Holmes with anyone else.
7. My happily ever after for them: They continue living on Baker Street together, solving crime!

Also, I heard about Amelia bullying you into actually writing your EoT fic. Bwahahaha. =D
