Of course he does his very best to be helpful and trustworthy and likable, as part of a long game or to make his eventual betrayal all the worse ... And then he realizes that he's accidentally stumbled upon family. Thor actually values his strategies and opinions, and everyone thinks his magic is good and useful. I don't know if this would be long-term sustainable, but I think this particular household would keep him on his toes enough, and love him enough, to keep Loki from chafing and bolting.
