that depends on where you stop your story
WHITE COLLAR. I finished watching it at least ten minutes ago and my heart is still racing a little.
OH GOD I CAN'T EVEN I LOVED IT SO MUCH.
I will attempt coherence, but I'm not sure it's a possibility right now. I loved the scene where Peter and El are hanging out with Beau Bridges' character, and it is so much weirder and more awkward than it should be. I mean, I absolutely see the text: Neal has become a close friend to both of them, so of course the investigation is difficult. But wow, those were the faces of two people who were thinking, "You have no idea how complicated this relationship actually is."
I loved that Neal finally made a choice, and he has so, so many messes that need cleaning up and this was a whole episode of Peter loudly not trusting him and he wants to stay anyway. Meanwhile my heart is breaking a bit for Moz. I'm entirely on Neal's side re: staying, but of course Mozzie feels so hurt and betrayed; two years ago, or even a year ago, Neal would have jumped at this treasure, and I don't think Moz has noticed Neal changing. So -- Neal's made the right choice, but Mozzie just can't see it.
I loved that look on Peter's face when Beau Bridges said, "I'm excited about this forgery, it's the best I've ever seen." You know the look I'm talking about. It's the one where Peter realizes it was Neal after all, and is so fucking admiring of Neal's abilities and cleverness, and one corner of his mouth quirks up and he looks so proud.
And I loved at the end when Peter's stumbling through his house in a daze and he can't hear Diana and he can't hear Jones, and then Neal says his name and he's there. Oh god I just. My HEART. Those last few minutes were perfect.
Hereafter is speculation! I'm -- not that worried about El? Like, far be it from me to suggest that this show doesn't kill its women, but I am still 99% sure that El's going to be perfectly all right. Meanwhile, I have no idea how the next episode is going to go. I'm mostly just hugely worried that Peter is going to blame Neal for El being in danger. Also: what if Moz has already packed up the treasure and gone? They'd suddenly have no leverage! I did see someone put forth the suggestion that Moz hears about it in time and helps rescue El, which I certainly wouldn't put past him (and would keep Willie Garson on the show, so). But either way Neal is going to have to tell Peter the truth.
...Also, Peter will absolutely break every law to get El back, and then they will pin all the treasure on Keller, so they'll take Keller down (for a while at least, until he escapes again, KELLER) and Neal won't have to go to prison.
In the meantime, you know what? I always want to write fic and then the half-season cliffhanger throws me off because before writing day-to-day fic I'd first have to take care of whatever major plot point the show has just thrown at us, but screw that. I like this one a lot; I think I can work with it. White Collar fic maybe coming right up.
