This week's Sherlock: it still felt unquestionably like a Sherlock Holmes story to me, but ... oh my god, it was like all of Conan Doyle's bad bits (the leftover imperialism! *writhes*) and almost none of the good bits. I do like it when Euros Lyn directs things, because it feels comfortingly Whovian to me and also he somehow managed to make Cumberbatch look wildly attractive at all times, but after that I start groping for nice things to say. I guess the moral of the story is that I only want this Holmes if Moffat is personally writing him? I am not overthrilled about next week's, either, because I love watching Gatiss do absurd things onscreen, but at best I just find his writing passable.
I guess I'll just ... read the fic or something.

And yeah, I totally get what you've been saying about Paul Gross. I really kinda think this is what he's like in real life...

And one of the worst bits is that I loved the Holmes/Watson relationship in the first episode, because there is almost nothing I love more than watching two fucked-up people be the only two in the world to understand one another. And that ... was not what we got this week.

In the meantime OH MY GOD I LOVE THAT YOU ARE WATCHING SLINGS & ARROWS STILL. For serious, please feel free to email me and yell at greater length. :D
Also, once you are finished with S&A, I want to direct your attention to the s2 due South episode The Duel, in which the guy who plays Sanjay is a SERIAL KILLER WHO WANTS TO DESTROY VECCHIO AHHHHH, and the s3 episode Seeing is Believing, in which the woman who plays Anna is a jaded public defender. You have now watched more than enough Canadian telly to play Canadian Actor Bingo!
