It felt like Narnia wasn't Narnia any more, instead it was sort of corrupt and dirty and I didn't want to be there any more.

Yes, this! It was so awful reading it as a kid; I remember my confusion and distress pretty vividly. When I reread it as an adult, I could sort of appreciate where he was going with the story, but even still, to some extent, Lewis, like Phillip Pullman in the last book of HDM, got distracted by the allegory and as a result did the story and the characters a disservice.
